Dog Found, Taken to Humane Society Overnight

Abingdon resident Ray Crego found this dog Sunday afternoon, but he doesn't know who it belongs to. Here is what he wrote in an email:

"We found him on Thomas Pointe Court in Abingdon.

We can't hold on to him overnight, so I'n not sure what to do with him.

He is super nicely behaved. Has a blue collar, no tags."

If you recognize the dog, email BelAir@Patch.com and I'll put you in touch with Ray.

He is going to be spending the night with the humane society.

Please put ID on your pets to prevent this from happening!

I would've taken him to a veterinarian...hopefully owners find him.... ID...not necessarily an ID but MICROCHIP!! my white lab was lost, had ID tag but it fell off...fortunate that she was microchipped.

Ellen why isn't the humane soc a safe place? It is a wonderful place the staff are loving, the volunteers are great, the dogs are taken good care of don't know where you got your info nut it's wrong. Go spend some time there. If people wpuld be more responsible with their pets the society wouldn't be so crowded.

The Humane Society has an extremely high kill rate. I hope the owners come forward fast.

Appears this dog is already up for adoption...check the web site - listed at the top although no photo yet. Hard to believe an owner wouldn't check the shelter first. This dog will most likely find a home within a day or two. Pure bred, socialized dogs are never put down contrary to the storyline being promoted here. In fact they've got a couple dogs that have been there waiting for homes since last March - hardly a kill happy shelter.

Maybe the lesson here is we should be promoting ADOPTING for our pets....if more people knew adoption was an option then the Humane Society would not be so full and euthanizing would not need to happen so often. Bigger picture people.....bigger picture.

Maybe the Humane Society should promote more with all of the money they get from the county. They have one of the worst kill ratios around. That should not be happening when they are so flush with taxpayer dollars.
