Bel Air Couple Opens Burger Franchise
Jake's Wayback Burgers opened in the Festival at Bel Air shopping center.
A new eatery is now open in Bel Air, and the couple behind the business is looking forward to serving the community both with their food and their personal efforts.
Jake's Wayback Burgers officially opened its doors Oct. 18 in the Festival at Bel Air shopping center.
"According to the franchise we’re doing very well," Patty Borowski, franchisee, said Thursday. "I’d like to be doing better."
Borowski said she and her husband Joe live in Bel Air and have wanted to open a business for some time. They initially looked into starting their own company from the ground up, but a sickness in the family prevented the plan.
When the couple, now in their 40s, looked into Jake's Wayback Burgers, the pieces fell into place.
"We went out there and fell in love with the company," Borowski said.
Borowski said the casual restaurant offers more options than a typical burger joint. It also offers salads and chili, hotdogs, burgers and milkshakes.
"Our food is much better than what you would get at a fast food location," Borowski said, "But our prices are similar, so you get much better food than you would at McDonald’s for a similar price."
Borowski said a young girl came into the business and asked if the milkshakes were any good. Borowski told her she, herself, likes them, but wanted to hear the little girl's feedback.
The girl and her mother got food and as the girl slurped on her milkshake Borwoski stopped by the table and asked for the feedback the girl had promised.
"She said 'it’s the best milkshake I’ve ever had,'" Borowski said.
Borowski explained fun moments like that are partly why she and her husband wanted to open a business in Harford County.
"We’re there, we’re part of the community and we want to be part of the community," Borowski said.
In the spirit of giving back, the business plans to participate in trick or treating after the Halloween costume parade Saturday at the shopping center.
Borowski said the business has also donated to nearby Patterson Mill High School and offered to be part of a Young Life scavenger hunt.
