Police Seek Man in Attempted Brierhill Robbery

The incident took place Friday morning, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Police are looking for a man who cut and attempted to rob a man Friday morning in Bel Air.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office said an employee at the Dollar Tree store in the 200 block of Brierhill Drive was taking out trash behind the store when he was approached by a white male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.

According to a news release, the male demanded the employee's wallet, and then pulled a pocket knife, waving it toward him and cutting the victim's side.

Police said the victim was able to push the male away, and the suspect ran from the area.

Police searched the area for the suspect, who remained at large as of Sunday morning. The investigation is ongoing.

The victim declined treatment from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, according to the news release.

Sorry to hear that. Too bad the trooper and deputy who are always behind the store writing stop sign tickets on Todd were more interested in watching honest people then the criminals who are always lurking in that shopping center. Shop owners there have indicated that they are really getting tired of all the robberies and drug activity. Maybe these cops need to stop raising money for the State, get their butts out of the police car and walk through the shopping center.

How about you get out here w/ that nonsense. Like you know what they do but you will be the first to cry and ask for help from them if something happens to you so think before you talk.

I have to agree with H.C. Resident! Not disrespecting law enforcement but it does seem like law enforcement picks on the working folks for $$$$! Thugs don't have money so they only go after them when they have to!

I prefer to protect myself and not rely on the police for anything. They seem to be way to busy with wasting law abiding citrizens time rather then trying to stop criminals. I frankly couldn't be a cop. I couldn't sit around all day just bothering people who really are not an issue. I would want to get out of my car and probably walk around shopping centers, apartment complexes where some of the trouble originates, get to know people in the community and shop owners and see what kinds of problems the citizens are dealing with. Reminds me of what is on the patrol cars when I visit LA - to protect and serve. I think the key word that has become lost is ---serve. I don't blame the front line officers, I blame the leadership that tells them how to spend their day. I like how cops did their jobs when I was younger. They were about doing the right thing.

Aren't those old Greenbrier apartments now government subsidized housing?

Yes Greenbrier apartments. What is so hysterical about the entire situation is that the cops sit at the corner of Briar Hill/Todd all day long writing tickets to homeowners up on Todd and never to the people who live on the other side of Briar Hill which is where most of the trouble has its origins. Ask the cops is anyone pulling out of there onto Brier Hill ever gets a ticket.

Whlie they are so busy harrassing law abiding tax payers, these thugs break into the people's houses, cars and sheds while people are at work, rob the stores in the shopping center and sell drugs behind the Dollar store and Safeway.

What is hysterical is that all of this goes on while the cops are sitting literally 100 yards away. But they are so preoccupied as the first comment said writing tickets for $$ that they don't even see what is going on in their rear view mirrors. Disgraceful!

You people are so bitter about the police issueing valid citations to people who speed or run stop signs. That is their job. I'm happy they are doing it. I live off Todd Rd in the single family development and people speed through there like maniacs, many of them my neighbors...not the apartments. The police are doing their jobs. They cannot be at every crime that happens in Harford County because it's RANDOM! Do you expect the police to follow every single person who looks like they might commit a crime?

I agree....I hate all the "blame the police" crap
Blame the criminals! The police put their ass on the line and get paid a crappy salary.

Michelle, what does the cops writing tickets for people down on Brier Hill versus catching real criminals at work where you probably shop have to do with people speeding through your street? Maybe if you are seeing your neighbors speeding by your house, you should say something to them. I tend to look at the big picture here. Not one of those nice homeowners getting tickets have ever killed anyone, robbed anyone, stole anything, are not selling drugs that threaten the lives of your children, burglarize houses and cars in your neighborhood, etc. Trust me, when you get mugged one night at the shopping center, you'll be the first one complaining that the police should have done something about the crime situation down there. I would rather have my tax money spent stopping and catching these little thugs and making your neighborhood a safe place to live. The story up top is about an attempted robbery. Haley, please. We do blame the criminals, we just want law enforcement's focus to be on dealing with violent criminals and not law abiding people. And contrary to your belief, law enforcement officials in this area are paid quite well, add a free car 24/7 and a great pension. Many officers with overtime can earn up to six figures. Since they are public employees and their wages are public information, you can look it up as I did. Of course they deserves every penny of it, they do, but please don't come on here and say they have a crappy salary.

My point, Bored, is Todd Rd is right behind this shopping center and I appreciate the police slowing people down. As I stated before, how do you expect the police to know when some RANDOM person is going to mug someone? It's impossible for the police to follow every "strange" looking person that looks like they might commit a crime. I'm not disagreeing that more police presence around the shopping center is a good idea, that doesn't mean no crime will happen and it does not guarantee the perp would get caught. But blaming the police officers who are giving citations to people breaking driving laws (as petty as they are) does not mean they aren't doing their job!

People are conflating two different issues. That cops write tickets is not the explanation for why there isn't a cop behind every store, 24 hours a day to see that no one is ever robbed. Obviously they can't always be there, tickets or not.
We also don't know that the thief came from the apartments. It may have been a teen/young adult that lives with his parents in the nearby homes. As a long time resident of the nearby homes, I can tell you that not all the children are little innocent darlings.
A police presence in the area can only help to minimize incidents like this, even if they're running radar.
No one likes to be hassled by the police, but I have never been dealt with unfairly by them. I got stopped on Brierhill and he gave me a warning. It worked, because I watch my speed. Now, you complainers, stop riding the rear of my car! It's a residential area and I'm doing the speed limit!

It's not random. Since they made those apartment subsidized housing there are drug deals and guys in with hoodies on their heads all over the place day and crime. What a shame. Give people cheap house that is paid for with tax dollars and they hang around and commit crimes and don't work. These are not old or disabled people. They are thugs and you would have to be blind not to see them

A backround check is done for all that live there...I know because we applied 2 years ago and got turned away since my husband had a 2 drug charges (from 2001)
The townhouses right there are bad since it is not "controlled" who lives there

You folks really don't get it. You stop criminal activity by having a police presence where the crime is actually happening. If you want the robberies and drugs to stop then you have the police walk through the center regularly and this will force the criminals to go somewhere else or just maybe they might get caught. It is very old school but very effective. The problem is getting officers out of their cars. They set up a crime hot spot command post there last year for a few days, but as soon as they left, the criminals came back because there was no follow up with foot patrols. Do you people understand that is some serious criminal activity going on down there. Do you also know that there is never a get away car in the store robberies, but the crooks run away towards the apartments. You better get your prioirties straight before someone else dies down there.

How soon they forget the dead fetus in the trash from 2 years ago...how about the shooting of the blind man; the scurge that shot him hasn't even been convicted yet I don't think. Great apartment complex - so nice to have it a part of our town.

I agree completely with HC Resident. The cops call the little side road beside Safeway, the "Brier Patch". Isn't that just precious?? They sit there, two of them side by side, and pull over every car that drives by! Everyone is always going "47 in a 30", too! Wow, what a coincidence! I was pulled over once, and KNOW for a fact that I was going 30 (because I know they sit there!) I told the cop that, and said "See you in court, buddy!" Guess he saw my beautifully clean record, and decided not to mess with me... gave me a "warning", yea, a warning for not breaking the law! Typical of these ridiculous Bel Air cops! They need to crack down on the drug addicts and teenage/20's thugs that rob and steal in the Safeway shopping center. I've gotten scared to get out of my car there at night because of the thugs sitting in cars, waiting for their drug deal. Yep! I can spot them but the cops can't! Unreal!

Everyone is always doing 47 in a 30? You know they mark a road "30" because it's either residential or has lots of pedestrian foot traffic. While I think there ought to be additional scrutiny of that area due to crime you are just as dangerous because you're smug and just self-absorbed enough not to care about endangering others by speeding through other people's neighborhoods. Glad you got the one ticket and I'm hoping you get more. Maybe you'll realize it's not all about you.
