Police Seeking Bel Air 'Evel Knievel' After Fountain Jump

A YouTube video of a dirt bike jumping the fountain in front of Harford County courthouse is under investigation by police.

Bel Air has its own infamous stunt man after a YouTube video caught the attention of police.

On Oct. 27, a video was posted to the popular video sharing website depicting a man in a cape and helmet completing a dirt bike jump over the landmark fountain in front of the Harford County Circuit Court building. You can find the video attached to this post.

In the one minute and 13 second video entitled "Evil Kenevil lives in Bel Air" the rider breaks several laws, including driving the wrong way on Main Street.

A small crowd watched the jump with enthusiasm, directly across the street from the Harford County Sheriff's Office Headquarters building.

Bel Air Police didn't learn of the incident until three days later when an officer and motorcycle enthusiast was emailed a link to the video, according to a story on ExploreHarford.com.

Although police didn't know of the jump until days later, a Bel Air officer did try to stop someone matching the stuntman's description during the early hours of Oct. 27, according to ExploreHarford.com.

"Yes indeed he had his cape on," Sgt. Robert Pfarr told ExploreHarford.com. "That night was the night most of the taverns and bars in town were having costume events. It didn't strike me as odd because everyone else was in costume."

The rider was on an unregistered dirt bike, police told ExploreHarford.com.

Pfarr is in charge of the investigation, Deputy Chief Richard Peschek said Friday.

Pfarr was not available for comment Friday. If police track down the daredevil, he will likely face reckless driving and driving an unauthorized bike charges, according to a Fox45 report.

How can a large crowd gather in front of the Sheriffs Office then this jump takes place and then it takes three days for the Bel Air Police to learn about it? And then only thanks to YouTube! Thank god it was "Evil Kenevil" and not a murder or rape on the front steps of the Sheriff's Office, apparently no one is watching the store.

I think Bel Air can find a better place to funnel taxes if the police are looking into "crimes" like this.

Amber with all due respect showboating on a bike among a crowd of drunks is not only stupid and dangerous - it's a crime. The idiot on the bike and anybody gathered round' to watch the idiot might get hurt should he lose control and that's not to mention the amount of damage that might get done to that fountain or any other objects in the vicinity. There's a place for this sort of thing and that's a dirt track. You apparently haven't spent any time in the city where this same idiocy occurs with some regularity...it's scary coming around a corner in your car only to see a guy on one wheel coming up the road at you.

People in Harford County need to set their priorities straight, why are we using resources to pursue a few people meant no harm? The only reason the police are looking for this guy is because they are embarrassed that one of the 200 patrol cars they had out that night didn't see him. How safe do you feel knowing that this happened and a single officer didn't see the crowd, much less the bike or the golf cart? I would assume the Harford County Sheriffs office, where the camera man was standing, has some sort of security cameras outside with a person inside monitoring them. Nobody inside noticed a crowd of people gathering outside!?!? And then Harford County Sheriff comes out to say its not in their jurisdiction as its a Bel Air Police responsibility. Really?!?!? Meanwhile my neighbor is dealing crack out of his house but has immunity from the police because he is an informant. Your right Karl, lets find this motorcycle driver and lock him up, god forbid he hurt himself or scare you. Oh and I guess he could ride on a dirt track if there was one to ride on where every neighbor in the neighborhood wouldn't call the police.

Not to mention that the moron on the motorcycle probably doesn't have health insurance, and if an accident were to happen, tax payers wind up paying for his visit to the emergency room.

This really isn't that big of a deal. Props to the guy that made the jump. They got away with it. It was cool. It didn't damage anything or anyone. Just move on. Learn from it obviously. If anyone tries it again maybe have a cop outside late night. The only worry you have is if some one else tries it and hurts themselves. But this act itself is over and done with. Let it go and learn from it

If they do find out who it is I bet a good lawyer could get him off. Bottom line no one was hurt and the fountain is not damaged. Drunken crowds on mainstreet that is dangerous too, why not look for them also.

Yes it is illegal and stupid, but the fact that the Town would put any resources into solving this tells me there are too many cops and they probably could lay off a couple and save theTown tax payers some money.

I agree with Dan and Amber. Nobody got hurt and there was no damage. The Sheriff's office may be embarrassed a bit but let's just move on people!!!

I'am with Dan & Amber on this one. This reminds me of the Dukes of Hazard or Smokey and the Bandit. I think the Police should just wipe the egg off their faces and get over it. People shouldn't be performing these kind of stunts in town but you have to admit it was pretty funny, did not hurt anyone and was performed right in front of the Sheriffs Office and in the middle of Town ? And what makes it even more hilarious is the Police response, go get em Roscoe !

Hey Schmuub, its over. No one got hurt. Nothing damaged. Unless this guy rides a dirt bike thru town again, i hope Pfarr is doing his job and not wasting our tax dollars investigating a prank.

i agree, but the police state says fun is against the law! when will fun for adults be outlawed? that is a trick question it already is!

If the Bel Air PD and Harco Sheriff's Office had any sense, they would let this one go. It's embarrassing enough to them already, and pursuing the motorcyclist will only keep the story alive.

I can see both sides to this, but I lean towards letting the idiots be idiots and move on. Also, wow, what a daring jump......like a 3rd grader jumping a sand box. lol

Obviously this is just another example of some people thumbing their nose at authority and society. The "stunt" this idiot did on the dirt bike is no big thing. The fact that they did it in front of the courthouse is what it is all about. It is their way of saying to the police, "Screw you." I hope they are caught. same goes for the idiots watching and cheering him on.

Yes, I agree with Dan. Bel Air is a small town and if any police at all should be patrolling it should be in the heart of Bel Air near the court house but I guess they had better things to do besides there job. That brings me to another point. I was driving in the Festival of Bel Air when I saw a Bel Air police officer in plain clothes driving around the area while talking on his cell phone up to his ear. I confronted him about how he is suppose to uphold the law instead of breaking it and he got smart with me like he was above the law like most police officers think they are. I called his Chief but Im sure nothing was done about this young law breaking police officer.

You are aware that police officers are permitted to talk on cell phones while driving, right? Even when they are in civilian clothes.

NBC did a story tonight on the worst violators of distracted driving laws and it is the police all over the Country. They as a group have more accidents and cause more deaths and injuries than any other group of drivers. Why, because the lawas never apply to them and or they are always above the law. My favorite is when the town cops park in a handicapped spot at the mall to hand out parking tickets to people not parking in the proper spaces. I asked the cop about that last Christmas and he told me to shut up or he'd lock me up. Note I was legally parked, just htought it was strange that he was parked in the handicapped spot.

Police are supposed to be following the same laws as the rest of us, i guess they are allowed to shoplift from Home depot and Walmart also?????? Law Enforcement officers should be held to a higher standard not exempt until they screw up and its put on the news.

America was once a place of freedom where a guy having fun was celebrated now it becomes a investigation by the Keystone cops to ''showboat'' for the crybaby rats of the Ussa. You know the place where the public tells on everyone else? Wait until his next jump its going to be awesome.

Maybe it was supposed to be a funny prank amongst friends, maybe the guy doesn't know someone was going to make a video and put it on YouTube.Maybe he didn't intend to embarrass all the Harford county police depts.Maybe it was such a small little stunt that he knew there was no possibility of injury to himself or others.Maybe the next jump will be even cooler, I'm guessing it will!!!!

The cops are pissed because some guys drove a side by side into town with a ramp on the roof threw a area that has over a million dollars in surveilence cameras all over the place and no one saw it.If they would spend more time chasing the junkies and thieves out of town instead of trying to run Looneys out of business maybe the town wouldnt be such a craphole. Id like to see him jump the KFC next. AMA 4 LIFE..

Yes Rob, Steve is correct. Law Enforcement Officers are excempt from the cell. phone law, which allows them to talk on their cell. phone as long as it is work related. So I know it looks bad, but if he was talking "Police Work" matters, he was within his rights. If he wasn't, then that's different...

The authorities should have been notified prior to such an event in case they needed to scrape the sidewalk up afterwards. Stationing an ambulance and a streetsweeper would be a good idea just in case.

If this was back in the 50s or 60s the cops wouldve stood in that crowd cheering him on like everyone else. This is where we have gone as a society. Why does everyone hate fun nowadays? To all those snooty for no reason Bel Air residents, get off your imaginary high horses. Live a little. Im from Aberdeen, and I love my city. If someone decided to jump Ripken's statute, half the city would be there, cheering.

The fact that somebody does a stunt like this is not an embarrassment to police... they can't be everywhere all the time.
