UPDATE: Bel Air Man Cut During Home Invasion
The incident took place Sunday in the Thomas Run area of Bel Air.
UPDATED (5:20 p.m.)—A Bel Air man was cut during an altercation with a burglar in the back yard of his home early Sunday morning.
The incident took place at approximately 6:15 a.m. Sunday in the 1800 block of Glendale Lane, where a woman reported to her husband that she heard noises in the basement of their townhome, according to a news release from the Harford County Sheriff's Office. The husband went to the basement, where he saw someone outside the basement door, police said.
Then, police said, "The victim then went back upstairs grabbed a baseball bat then went out outside to the back yard where he confronted the male suspect striking him with the bat. The victim and suspect struggled on the ground where the suspect cut the victim with a box style cutter in the back and shoulder."
The suspect ran off through an open fence, headed toward Centerville Square, police said. The sheriff's office K-9 unit and the Maryland State Police aviation unit searched the area but were unable to find the suspect.
Police are seeking a man they say committed first-degree assault and attempted burglary in the incident. No suspect description was provided.
The investigation is being handled by the Harford County Sheriff's Office.
Patch initially reported the incident about an hour after it occurred.
Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS association, said at that time that one person was transported to a local hospital by the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company. The sheriff's office release said the patient was the male victim, who was transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.
As of 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, deputies remained on the scene after a suspect broke into a residence in an attempted robbery, Lt. Joe VanSeeters of the Harford County Sheriff's Office Northern Precinct told Patch. He said the incident was reported to the sheriff's office at 6:20 a.m.
