Bel Air Man Charged In Carjacking

Christopher Montgomery is facing robbery and assault charges in connection with a Dec. 7 incident.

A Bel Air man is jailed pending trial after allegedly wrestling keys from a woman's grasp, injuring her, and driving away in her car.

Christopher Michael Montgomery, 36, of the 1800 block of Selvin Drive in Bel Air, was charged Tuesday with robbery, second-degree assault, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and theft between $10,000 and $100,000, online court records show.

His charges stem from an incident in the Bel Air area at the end of last week.

On Dec. 7 Montgomery allegedly snatched car keys out of a woman's hand, pushed past her and stole her car, Assistant State's Attorney Kemba Lydia-Moore said during a bail hearing Wednesday. The incident took place around 5:43 p.m. in the 1300 block of Scottsdale Drive, police call records show.

The woman, who sustained injuries during the robbery, later identified Montgomery as her attacker based on his photograph, Lydia-Moore said.

Montgomery also faces a series of traffic violations in connection with the Dec. 7 incident, court records show. He has failed to appear for court 11 times, has 10 prior convictions and is pending trial in another case, Lydia-Moore told the judge Wednesday.

District Court Judge Susan Hazlett ordered Montgomery be held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center in the carjacking case. She also set bail in a separate theft and assault case case at $200,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan 10, 2013 in Harford County District Court.

I know, right? It's amazing how many chances a good lawyer and a broken system can get you.

looks like a fine upstanding local citizen. all he wanted was a simple car ride to the soup kitchen where it's obvious he was volunteering and serving those less fortunate. he was probably shy and felt bad asking to borrow her car, so he took it upon himself to not inconvenience the woman and made use of her automobile. i don't see why his 10 previous convictions are being brought up (it's in the past at this point), he's made good on his debt to society!

"Easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven". What is wrong with you? Is it not bigoted to assume anybody with extra cash goes to hell. The rest of what you write here in nearly incomprehensible.

You took the words right out of my mouth! I've lived in Bel Air most of my life, and always thought of this as a quiet town where serious crime was rare. Now we've got homicides, a carjacking, stabbings during barfights...what's next? I don't like this at all!

WHY do they allow these people, who continuously break the law over and over again, to walk the streets with the rest of us? I will never understand this. It's a disgrace that law abiding citizens have to deal with so many of these criminals.

And people wonder why the right to carry is so so imporent. And something we shall never give up and fight hard to be permitted every where. This could have been a lot worse and thankfully it was not. But crimes like this and others are becomeing more and more frequant. We need the right to protect our selves or family or neightbors and love ones safe from people like this

Why does the bel air patch let any of you comment on these cases? Your say means nothing and more than ninety percent of you are so beyond ignorant that I don't even know what to do with myself and the other ten percent or less comment with their noses high as if they have an immense amount of intellect they just have to share. Just shut up and mind your own. Read this article, take it into your homes and be more precautions because of it. This isn't some damn blog or forum. Yes and I mean you PcTech with your oh so vast knowledge. Good grief.

We should be glad this POS got arrested. Too bad we have to foot the bill for his junkie ass to have a roof and 3 squares. I say turn his ass loose on the sons of the lady he tried to rob/carjack. Look his record up. He's a thief and a waste.

I was very upset about this !
This young man lives with his mother in a nice condo but she's a renter.she already had one son who lived there jailed!!!
Now this young man.
The other tenants are all owners but this one condo is rented. They have tried to contact the owner and ask for help on this situation - but the owners don't care - they only want the money.
When did people stop helping each other .
The people who live there are concern about safety issues
Nobody cares if they don't have a vested interested .
