Across the nation neighborhoods are showing solidarity against crime while building a sense of community during National Night Out tonight, Aug. 7.
Participating in the event is simple. Turn on your porch light from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and step outside to visit with your neighbors.
The idea behind the event is for neighbors to "[c]ommit to looking out for one another in the upcoming year," and make a difference in crime, according to a release from the Harford County Sheriff's Office.
In honor of the day, Maryland State Police are teaming up with Target to offer activities and information to the community.
From 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7, Target team members and troopers from the Bel Air Barrack will host National Night Out festivities at the Target located at 403 Constant Friendship Boulevard in Abingdon.
Activities include:
- Trooper 1 (Maryland State Police Helicopter): from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
