Benson Post Office Robbed

Police are looking for the man responsible.

Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are searching for a man responsible for the daylight armed robbery of the Benson post office Wednesday.

A man wearing sunglasses walked into the post office, located at 108 Connolly Road, around 1:45 p.m. and made his way to the counter.

"At the last second he brandished a handgun, grabbed whatever money he could and left," Edward Hopkins, spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office, said.

The man took a undisclosed amount of cash and ran off, according to Hopkins.

Deputies were joined by police dogs and a Maryland State Police helicopter in searching the area, but no suspects were found.

The robber is described as a white man with dark hair in his thirties wearing blue jeans with red trim, a gray sweatshirt, black cap and sunglasses. He was about 6-feet tall.

The FBI and postal inspectors are involved in the investigation, but for now the case remains under the jurisdiction of the sheriff's office, Hopkins said.

A robbery scare took place at a nearby Fallston bank earlier this week, but it is unclear if the incident is related to that or any other incidents in the area.

"They will certainly look for any cases that might be connected," Hopkins said.

The investigation is ongoing.
