Construction Snarls Traffic At Constant Friendship

Traffic was backed up at in the Constant Friendship shopping area near Wal Mart Friday afternoon.

Construction in the Constant Friendship area inconvenienced a number of drivers Friday afternoon with some experiencing backups along Constant Friendship Boulevard as far back as BJ's Wholesale Club.

Maryland State Police said flagging crews in the area were overwhelmed with cars causing heavy traffic along Constant Friendship Boulevard.

One woman posted about the issue around 12:30 p.m. on the Bel Air Patch Facebook page after noticing police cars and slow traffic near the Wells Fargo on Constant Friendship Boulevard.

"It is still backed up all the way into the BJs lot. No one is moving," Shari VonAldenbruck LoPresti commented on the Bel Air Patch Facebook page about an hour later at 1:22 p.m.

This is not the first time traffic in the area has come to nearly a dead halt for an extended period of time.

In December 2010 there were a series of traffic issues in that area that drew county police to direct traffic.

Have you experienced traffic issues on Constant Friendship Boulevard? What, if anything, should be done to improve traffic flow in that area? Let us know in the comments.

They should really find a way to make the road go through to somewhere, or make a loop back to rte 24. It's just not enough roadway to support the amount of traffic. A few years ago traffic was stuck for several hours when it began to snow.

Amen. Wonder how many millions have been spent making that exhange worse than before...thanks God they've gotten rid of those trees; clearly these planners have issues with trees.

I pulled into Starbucks and couldn't see the end of the line toward Regal. Made myself nice and comfortable. Now I can't see the front of the line, though, so it's gotten much better.

Connect Winter Run Rd with Constant Friendship this could possibly allieviate some of the congestion.

Mel has the perfect solution to this. A short road over to Winters Run Rd, connected with the BJ's traffic circle would be ideal. It would divert 30% or more of the current traffic load I would be willing to bet. What if, heaven forbid, a tanker delivering fuel for BJs overturns at the entrance to Constant Friendship Blvd? Where would you divert traffic to? What if there were a HazMat incident on Tollgate Rd @ C.F. Blvd, how would you evacuate all the people out of that shopping area? What if old Mr Murphy shows up during holiday season and allows one such incident to happen? And nobody can escape?
Just some food for thought.

That whole area is now one huge head ache..If you are not from around there it is so easy to get mixed up. And no one ever seems to know where they are going. If you follow the arrows you will be ok , but it's not that easy. How can you watch for arrows when all you can really do is watch the people coming at you from what seems like all sides.
