David Craig Narrows Choices for 2014 Election

The Harford County Executive said he will continue his political career after he finishes his second term.

Harford County Executive David Craig confirmed Friday that he plans to run in the 2014 election. Exactly which office he will pursue, however, is unclear.

The Republican told Patch his intent right now is to get organized.

“I’m running for something in 2014,” said Craig, who will be term-limited after finishing his second stint as the county’s top elected official. “I’m always looking at the future. My windshield is bigger than my back window.”

Craig’s website has had a graphic in the upper left corner for weeks that says “CRAIG 2014” with a Maryland flag on top. His Facebook page has linked to stories with headlines of “MD 2014 Watch: David Craig” and “Harford County Executive Craig could be laying groundwork for 2014 gubernatorial bid.”

Craig has also been on a statewide media tour as of late, making appearances on WBAL, ABC2News, WCBM radio and at 7:30 p.m., he will be on MPT’s State Circle. In an impromptu interview before the recording for Friday’s show, he told Patch he is considering a run for governor, comptroller and to a lesser extent Congress.

"My interests run toward the executive [branch]," said Craig, who downplayed his interest in the House of Representatives. “I think it’s safe to say I won’t be running for council president."

Craig lives in Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District. Democrat C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger is in his fifth term representing that area.

Craig also announced a series of statewide GOP candidate training schools earlier this year.
