UPDATE: Early Dismissal at Fallston High School Wednesday

Harford County Public Schools announced the closure shortly after noon Wednesday.

UPDATE: (3:06 p.m.)—An area-wide power outage led to the early dismissal of Fallston High School students Wednesday.

Students were dismissed at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to a message from Teri Kranefeld, manager of communications with Harford County Public Schools.

All after school and evening activities at the school are also cancelled, including parent/teacher conferences, Kranefeld wrote in an email.

Around 10:30 a.m. power went out in the Fallston area, BGE spokeswoman Rachael Lighty said Wednesday afternoon.

"We had an issue when one of our overhead lines went out," Leighty said.

About 4,096 customers in and around Fallston were impacted, Leighty said.

The issue was remedied around noon, however the decision to dismiss Fallston High School early had already been made.

Leighty said the utility is not sure what caused the line to go out and that matter remains under investigation.
