Festival ShopRite 'Reopens'; Valet Pickups Coming
The Klein family celebrated its Festival store's grand reopening, which officially kicked off Sunday.
The Klein family solidified itself as a contender in the crowded Harford County grocery market Wednesday. Local officials and hundreds of patrons attended a grand reopening of the ShopRite in Festival.
Although the store never closed, a $5 million renovation that lasted nearly a year turned the Bel Air store inside out.
“It really is an asset to the community,” Andy Klein, one of the owners, said of the store. “We’re survivors. … We will survive.”
Mini-crab cakes, pasta and pastries were part of the free fare served to guests. County Councilmen James McMahan and Richard Slutzky and state Delegate Susan McComas attended the festivities.
An expanded bakery and produce section greets customers in the front of the store, with frozen and packaged foods occupying the space in the back that used to be a Card Connection next door.
The store is also preparing to unveil its “valet shopping,” where customers will be able to order online and pick up their groceries curbside.
“This is really the ShopRite model for what a supermarket should be,” co-owner Howard Klein said. “Hopefully it’s the model for what we hope our customers would want it to be.”
