Former C-Mart Gets Facelift, New Tenant
A Gavigan's furniture will soon fill the vacant building.
Gavigan's Furniture is coming to Forest Hill as early as August, filling the building that used to house C-Mart
A Gavigan's employee confirmed the store will be opening at that location as early as August or September. The new tenant is bringing a facelift to the building, which has fallen into disarray over the years.
The building is located at 1503 Rock Spring Road, just over the line dividing Bel Air and Forest Hill, and for years was occupied by the discount store C-Mart.
In 2008, the store went out of business, according to a story on TheDailyRecord.com. A long succession of business has followed C-Mart including discount retail and auction house The Big TARP, a flea market and most recently DJ's Liquidation.
In May, Gavingan's Furniture was issued a tenant and occupancy permit that covers modifications to the building, according to Harford County Planning and Zoning.
There have been obvious changes made to the outside of the building and the updates are catching the attention of local residents.
Four people submitted questions to Patch this week alone asking about the building's future.
The C-Mart logo has been covered by a fresh coat of paint and scaffolding lines the front and side of the building in preparation for installation of a new facade.
Have you noticed the changes to the former C-Mart? Do you feel Gavigan's Furniture is a good fit for that shopping center? Leave a comment.

There is a wonderful natural food market right behind this building-David's Natural Market! If you like Trader Joes, you should really check this out.

Davids is great - all sorts of vitamins and supplements, but also carry organics, both fresh and packaged. It's sort of hidden back behind the frontage on 924...I kinda stumbled on it trying to turn around one day and have gone there ever since.

Terry you left out Value City furniture, yea they are all horrible places to buy furniture. It would be nice to have a place that sells sturdy furniture at a reasonable price, Maybe this is the store.

My 15month old furniture from Room Store is falling apart........ You sit on the chaise & you sink in & this is in a hardly used room. Room Store now says to file a claim like all other creditors......& here's a new one for you......bought a new counter-height table & chair set from Ashley when they opened last November. Salesperson told me their products are made in America because we asked that question. Guess what - the tags on the stuff said "made in China"........I like it but hope it lasts.......
