Fountain Green Subway Robbed at Gunpoint

The March 20 robbery took place at the sandwich shop on Brierhill Drive.

A man robbed a Subway in Bel Air at gunpoint Wednesday night, according to Edward Hopkins, spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

At 9:30 p.m. as Subway staff was preparing to close, a man entered the store on the 200 block of Brierhill Drive and showed a gun, demanding cash receipts, Hopkins said.

A black bandanna covered the lower half of the man's face and his sweatshirt hood covered his head, according to Hopkins.

After receiving money, the suspect left Subway with an undisclosed amount of cash and headed for the Seasons apartment complex on foot, Hopkins said.

Described as a thin man, the suspect was wearing jeans and a gray hooded zip-up sweatshirt with pockets, according to Hopkins. He weighed approximately 140 pounds; was 5'6" to 5'10"; and was between 20 and 29 years old, Hopkins said.

Anyone with information should call Detective Tammy Burns at 410-836-5043; text metro crime stoppers at 274637; or submit a tip online.

Here we go with the section 8 trash living in the old Greenbrier apartments again. Might as well put bars on this shopping center and make it look like something down on North Avenue.

It will stop as soon as the liberal Democrats take away all of the guns from the thugs. Oh, wait......the liberal Democrats are trying to take away guns from law-abiding citizens instead of the criminal thugs......never mind.

These comments are ridiculous usually when someone robs a place at gunpoint most people don't get a description of their eyes and hence why they wear this type of clothing so they can't see what color skin or hair they have and I don't remember the mall getting robbed but I do know they have shoplifters all the time totally different then a armed robbery

A lot of folks become panic stricken when facing the business end of a gun, knife or anything else being used as a weapon in a hold-up and they cannot recall exact details. That is why it is important for any witnesses to come forward, as their recall may be more detailed than the person staring down the gun barrel.

The real problem here is that these robberies continue and are getting worse while the cops sit behind the green brier shopping center writing stop sign tickets to law abiding citizens all day. Practically every store in that center has been robbed. None oif the robberies have been solved. It is time for these lazy cops to get out of their cars and on foot patrol. This is just b.s.

I agree there needs to be more of a police presence in the shopping center, but how dare you call the police lazy for writing stop sign tickets to "law abiding" citizens. Last I checked, it is a law to stop at a stop sign! Your statement is BS!

I shop there all the time. Thanks for letting me know what a dangerous place it is. Maybe I should head to Baltimore -- would probably be a little safer there now that everyone that has moved up from Baltimore over the past 40 years is already here!

No, pay attention Michelle, I said they are lazy because they refuse to walk a beat. That's the way you catch person on person criminals. I have lived here for 40 years, and since the 80's I have never seen a cop walking a beat outside of a car with the exception of one area of Edgewood. But you have to admit for the cops, it is much safer pulling over stay at home moms for non sense, versus working in the shopping center and dealing with gun carrying bad guys.

Saw a man getting arrested last Sunday morning near the liquor store as I was coming out of Safeway at 10:45. This is getting out of control and I'm afraid to live as close to the shopping mall as I do. Has anyone brought up this situation at the Bel Air town meetings? Something has got to be done to curb all of the crime occurring in the area.

@Eric the Red, I hardly consider one arrest in all these reports doing something. The arrest I saw, I have yet to hear anything reported about. It might have been a disorderly conduct or something for all we know. It was St. Patrick's Day.

It's obviously a black guy. Because when it's a white guy, they always say it in the description, but when it's a black guy they never mention color.

That shopping center and the entire neighborhood around it are in danger of being know as the bad side of town and all because of one apartment complex. How long you think Safeway stays there when they lose customers due to fear...what then moves in there? I'm bettin' something like Aldi's so you'll end up with a shopping center that includes a liquor store, Aldi's, The Dollar Store and a bunch of empty storefronts...Sensations and the rest of them move out and what do you have then? Voila you have Edgewood.

Edgewood...or Essex North, wait that's Abingdon. My how things change.

The mall needs Gabriels, checking cashing store and a head shop, so they can sell crack pipes.

The liquor store will probably get a bulletproof lexan wall and transact money through a drawer.

The entire area is trashy.....

I have friends in Abingdon that want out because the disease is creeping quickly into Abingdon now too. The coupe de gras will be the Walmart at Plumtree - fate will then be sealed as to the decline of that side of town from the Walmart all the way down the 24 corridor and to 95.

Yea...and Maryland is passing the law Oct. 1st to bann assault rifels from law biding citizens. We need to allow these law abiding citizens to pack an AK 47 see how many times they get robbed after that

What a bunch of racist people we have here.......It's not the race/ethnicity that's the problem. We, as a society, are losing morals and decency.....I don't necessarily mean religion, but it's the social class and what we instill in our children, family and neighbors. Sounds to me some of you here fall in that catagory.

The SD is not lazy, but they can't protect the citizens/business on the front side of the Shopping Center because to do so would cause a decrease in revenues they are creating by hiding on the back side of the Shopping Center. David Craig is counting on that extra money that comes from writing speeding tickets & Stop sign running tickets to give County workers another Bonus. HCSO & Government needs to get their priorities straight, before someone gets hurt or killed!!

That's why I never go there to shop in the evenings anymore. Pretty soon I won't be going there at all. It's very scary and nothing, I'm afraid, will be done unless and until someone gets killed (again). It's upsetting that the folks who are paid to provide governance operate in a knee-jerk reactionary approach instead of being preventative.

Lake Trout and Chicken aside, section 8 people are in situations where they need help. HOWEVER, section 8 also brings an unwanted element. The good S8 people want to get rid of the bad S8 people as much as we do. The problem is the process of allowing the bad S8 people in. In my uneducated opinion, if you are eligible for S8 and you have a criminal record, you (and your family) will never be allowed to get S8 housing. But our liberal state government does not see it that way. They would rather take guns away from store owners and raise gas taxes to pay for that light rail extension to Bel Air. I have not gone back to Italian Sensations in 3 years because of the crime.

I'm proud to say, Mr. Jacobs, my family has been in Harford County since the early 1800's.
Crime can happen in any neighborhood. Some more than others for various reasons. There are plenty of decent people on assistance these days that certainly would rather not be. Remember the bank robber in Connecticut a few years back? He was a white male from a very well off area (more than HC) who lost his job on Wall St. Just the banter about any one group of people causing the crime isn't fair. I stand on what I believe is the problem......and I have always locked my doors....It just makes sense.

Bel Air needs to put more police in/around this shopping center as well the apartment complex, for it seems obvious these thugs are on foot and most likely reside at the apartments or know someone who does.

To assume they live in those apartments is ridiculous. I remember very clearly that when the Dollar Store mugging happened, they ran through the apartments, to the pool area and the police dogs lost track of him. So he must have had a get-a-way car. I went through a backgrond check when I moved in (and I have a section 8 housing voucher ::OMG::: SHOCKER:::) I also went through a very vigourous back ground check when I applied for sections 8 housing 3 years ago. You over step just a little and tey take your housing away (rightfully so) I lived in Baltimore City for a few years and they didnt seem to care about crime. Harfford Co is different.
