In my opinion, the comment "Because smart = bigotry" is out of line.
Encouraging an open minded society, means we should respect another's right to their own opinon... their own choices. Isn't that at the heart of Q6?
You don't have to agree... but tearing someone down because they have another opinion does not make this world a better place to live.

Harford Co has changed so much... it used to be a great county but the bigots who economically moved from working class to middle-class due to union wages bringing union workers to Harford Co from Baltitmore City and Co in the 1970-2012 have brought the highest amount of bigots in the State, short of Carroll County.

Casi, there comes a time when you have to call people out on their bigotry. if people don't want to marry same-sex people or associate with gay people, fine and damned dandy.
But as soon as they try to enshrine their personal likes and dislikes into law? We are going to have a big problem because the Constitution of the United States specifically says that is not acceptable.

It appears tt Harford county is misrepresented by the State of Maryland, as the make up of the county does not corolate with the state political agenda. I think it is time for Harford Countians for Succession to Pennsylvania, adding Harford to Pa would have push Pa over to the Romney side and Harford county would be better represented aligned with Pennsylvania.

I think it is alarming that Wendy Rosen, who committed voter fraud since 2006, got even one vote. This just goes to show that democrats don't care about who runs for their offices, rather that the party itself maintains political party. Also, have any charges been leveled at Ms. Rosen? Is there any prosecution for this act? The Democratic party seems very quiet on this, especially Gov. O'Malley.

I am all for siding with BornHarford. It now becomes a sad statistic that there are now more of "them" than "us". We can never win. Our votes are negated by the very individuals who expect to receive more from the government in power than to earn it themselves. One day, and it's coming soon, the govenment will have taken all they possibly can from the earners and given everything to the non tax paying group, that they will have exhausted all avenues of revenue. Where then, will their hand outs come from?

When you are taking from Peter to pay Paul, you can always depend on the support of Paul. What Paul doesn't seem to realize is in the end both he and his family will ultimately pay for what was taken from Peter as a necessary part of the price he pays for everything he buys including what he purchases at Wendy's or McDonalds.

It's morning in Harford County and I see many on the right still don't understand the electorate is not the same as it was 25, 50 or 75 years ago. We live in a multi cultural, multi religious/or not, inclusive society that wants equality for all and a level playing field for taxes and opportunities. Karl Rove nearly had a heart attack on the air on FOX when FOX called the election for Obama.
Karl Rove and Sheldon Aldeson spent millions of dollars on Super PAC attack ads against Obama and social issues, going after the older white men vote and won ZERO raises. They, and Rush Limbaugh/Glen Beck/FOX, are now all lamenting what went wrong.
They lost because like many in Harford County, they don't seem to realize society is changing and what is important to the majority is not what they are selling.
Nate Silver called every single race in the United States using a mathematical formula and projected every race except one local race. The age of pundits is over.

I would also like to see how many of the same group are still here. It seems that the better thinkers moved to Baltimore Co. and as aforementioned, bigots from Baltimore City and Co moved to Harford Co. Now Baltimore Co has the highest socio-economic status and best schools.
People who read, may note that Harford County had NOT ONE A HIGH SCHOOL MAKE US News TOP HIGH SCHOOLS IN AMERICA.
The counties with tope schools were in order of highest amt of top schools, Montgomery Co, Baltimore Co, Howard Co, Calvert Co. Again, Harford County is not on the list. C. Milton Wright didn't make it during the last polled year....

The greatest occupational types in Harford County are just that occupations any more which does not go hand in hand with eduation.
For instance, being a contractor or a lawn mower aren't professions and most have as the highest achieved educational level as high school.
As previously pointed out, those who left were the ones who had the highest educational levels.... I think it is a real shame and Harford Co education should be better and thus promote the advantages which are given to achieve college education through scholarships, grants, student loans or military service.

As stated in a previous post, those who moved here from Baltimore City & Co moved here because they now made a better salary. Now Baltimore Co has the highest socio-economic status & best schools.

Interestingly, it seems, & I would love to see a poll, the greatest occupational types in Harford Co are just that, occupations. That doesn't go hand in hand with eduation.
For instance, jobs not requiring educational don't bring non-judgemental people as do professions like physicians, scientists, professors, etc.
I think it is a real shame that Harford Co.'s education is not better. If education was valued it would allow the community to be more open minded, less bigoted & created a better economy.

Let's see, the African American community has been the hardest hit by Obama's policies, they have the highest unemployment rate at 14%, yet they came out in droves to support him. That does not raise any suspicion? It is time to face reality, this has nothing to do with bigotry

Harford Countian Your views and knowledge of Harford County couldn't be more distorted. I have had relatives is Harford County since the 1600's. What we were raised on was strong family values and hard work ethics. We were also taught God helps those who help themselves. If those values and traditions make me a bigot so be it. But for me marriage is a religious union of one man and one woman. If you want to have a civil connection for benefit reasons fine but you don't have a right to call it a marriage. It is so hard to battle with an unarmed person, you need to get your facts straight. The whole mortgage debacle was started back in good ole Bill Clinton's days with the Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae "Let's give big dollar mortgages to people who will never be able to repay them". that is why the housing market collapsed. When are you going to stop blaming Bush for everything, when is Obama going to be held accountable for anything? He has had four years to fix things as he said he would and he hasn't done Jack! He has created a culture of entitlement and I personally am sick and tired of busting my hump to provide for people who are lazy and incompetent. It is time to get these people off the dole and put them to work to provide for themselves. The Democrats keep them on the welfare plantation because it means votes in their pockets. Remember, in case you have forgotten, food stamps recipients have risen from 32 % to 47 % under Barry. Now, that is some real "Hope and change". The whole idea of "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" as been forgotten. It is time to stop being enablers, and put well able people on the path to self suffiency.

In 1984 I moved to Harford Co. I WORK in Baltimore City, drive there 5 days a week. I wanted my kids to have a better school life with less crime around their home as well. I dont make a lot of money just enough to keep myself and my disabled husband with a roof over our head. We have 9 grandchildren. I live by GODS LAW. Every one can live as they wish I only have the right to govern myself but I will not have it in my face either. It seems that what I pay to the government goes to support others that dont work or try to help themselves. Our income is less than 30,000 a year we get no hand outs from anyone we make do with what we have and do without if need be, and we dont cry about it either.

Not sure where HarfordCountian got her stats either. My huband was a Baltimore City Police Officer and I work in downtown Baltimore as well. The reason I lived in Harford County was for the same reasons as Deborah. Don't know what area HarfordCountian lives in but my neighbors are hard working, God fearing people that believe Government shouldn't tell us how to live our lives. My children went to a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in HC. They both had wonderful teachers that wanted all their students to be successful. I love Harford County and wouldn't want to live in any other county in Maryland (my choice). Maybe HarfordCountian lives in a different area than. Either way I am voting for what I beleive in not because of someones color or because it is the PC thing to do. I grew up as a Dem but when I started raising kids and keeping a home my values changed. Vote your heart but if your really unhappy with the county you live in then you should move. Life is too short to be held back by "bigoted" people and be unhappy. As for me I'm staying (until I retire) and thank you Harford County for giving me good neighbors, good schools, low crime and a caring community and the privilege of seeing open land that is undeveloped that reminds of times when life was more simple and less hectic.

Harford Co does not have one HS which made US World Report Mag of top schools. With respect to Washington Post's list of top schools, the only HC HS which made that list was C. Milton Wright but, it was at the bottom, near 1000.. it was .. like 993.
Montgomery Co had the most then Howard, Baltimore, Calvert, Fredrick & Prince Georges' were next. Carroll Co had 3 school and, again, Harford Co had 1.
You clearly made an error in your research of great schools. Just b/c a teacher is nice doesn't mean they are a great teacher, nor does it mean that they inspire students to want to attain knowledge.

Harford Countian I was born and raised in Harford County and have lived here almost all of my life. I graduated from Bel Air High School , the University of Maryland and have continued my education at various other universities. Once again you are not even close at your false assumptions. 93% of the kids I went to high school with went to college, in the military or had jobs waiting on them. A large number of my graduating class are still in the Bel Air area and have bought house in neighborhoods we grew up in or close by. I can also say that my teachers at Bel Air prepared me to succeed at a large university. I was use to the large classes and traveling between building from one class to another. Most of all the forced me to work heard I had a great knowledge of how to learn college just provided a place to continue. But then again back then Bel Air was small everyone knew everyone and when they say it took a village. The entire village of Bel Air wouldn't have excepted any less from any of us. That's the difference anymore. If my neighbors saw me do something wrong. The corrected me then called my parents. Now no one wants to be bothered with the neighbors kids and the kids know it. You can't just blame the teachers and the school. I had a church, aunts, uncles, older cousins, neighbors, police officers, store merchants, and loving parents and grandparents. Each one of these people expected the best of me at all times and I was never given an option to fail.

It is sad to see that Harford County has reverted to a bourgeois area rifed with extreme republican views which promotes hateful ideals. As a direct result, there are not many professional people of which to speak still residing in Harford Co.
As for the beautiful farms for which Harford Co was well-known, they have been sold and divided into subdivisions, with many of the farmers having moved to Baltimore Co.
Some of the blame falls at the feet of the school system. When comparing school systems across the state, Harford Co. pales in comparison to other jurisdictions. This issue is a fact, in that, Harford Co. fails to have any school on the US News & World Report Mag. and has only one school on the Washington Post's list of top MD school - C. Milton Wright and it is at the bottom, near 1000.
However, for those of us who love the way Harford Co. used to be, what can be done? The subdivisions have ensured that the right wing extremists are sadly entrenched into the voting block. This ensures that Harford Co. remains outsiders, with respect to the State of Maryland, having built no bridges which could help the county - as the current political system has isolated the populous from the State power structure. Again the State Reps have such extreme views and use hate speach against the power structure, that there doesn't seem to be any hope.
As a result, it appears, unless different people are willing to run for State Office, Harford Co. will remain detached and isolated.

Harford Countian maybe the only one with a distorted view is you. Yes Harford County has many issues and we truly are missing great leaders. Maybe it's because when we do get someone who wants to do better they are faced by haters like you. After all your babbling and your quotes from a distorted magazine you perceive as the Holy Gospel. Some of the quotes weren't even correct (yes the rest of us can read the same article) but we took the time to find out how they collected the data and what they used to rate the schools. Which is the whole problem you want to number things and the rest of us can see the good in all. A child after all isn't just a test score. My only prayer is that you never get a chance to hold a public office.

Harford Countian if you want to know why there is not all the family farms in Harford County anymore it's called being greedy. A few families in town only saw the dollars being offered to them by greedy developers and they didn't care what it would do to the county they just saw the dollars and once one had more cash then the other they all sold out because it was easier to cash in there parents hard work then actually work themselves. Then they have been running around town flashing the money every since.
