Johnstone, 21, was turning right onto 152 from westbound Route 40 traveling “at a high rate of speed” at about 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, police said. His vehicle hit the median, went airborne and struck the driver’s side of the deputy’s car, according to police. Sives, whose vehicle was pushed onto the southbound shoulder of Route 152, was trapped for about 45 minutes. After being rescued by Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company personnel, he was flown by Medevac to Shock Trauma. Sives was listed in stable condition before being released around 7:30 a.m.

Johnstone and a passenger in his vehicle were wearing their seatbelts and were not injured, according to police.

Johnstone is being held at the Harford County Inter Agency Processing Center. The Edgewood resident has been charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence per se, failure to control speed to avoid collision and

All traffic near the intersection of the accident was reopened at about 7:50 a.m.
