Hearing Set for Teen Charged with Murdering Father

Robert Richardson III is expected to appear in Harford County District Court Tuesday.

A Bel Air teen charged with murdering his father is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Harford County District Court late Tuesday morning.

Robert Richardson III, 16, of the 800 block of Moores Mill Road, was charged as an adult on Jan. 10 with first- and second-degree murder and use of a handgun in commission of a felony or violent crime.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. in District Court.

The hearing is essentially a show cause hearing where the court determines if there is evidence that a felony was committed and enough evidence to believe the defendant is the one who committed that felony.

Richardson's felony charges stem from an incident on the night of Jan. 9, police said. Around 10:45 p.m., there was a 911 call from the Richardson's home on Moores Mill Road in Bel Air about a domestic disturbance.

Richarson III's sister allegedly made the call and told dispatchers her brother had shot her father, according to a WJZ report.

When police arrived, they said they found evidence indicating there may have been a shooting at the home. The 16-year-old was ultimately taken into custody after a police chase.

The teen allegedly told police he shot and killed his father, Robert Richardson Jr., age 58, and dumped the body in Aberdeen, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Richardson III was being held without bail Tuesday morning at the Harford County Detention Center.
