The barbecue-themed street festival is back in Bel Air this week.

The Maryland State BBQ Bash returns Friday for an 11th year of delicious food, live music, children's entertainment and a variety of vendors.

The two-day event is put on by the Bel Air Downtown Alliance and typically attracts about 30,000 people, according to event organizers.

Friday marks the tailgate challenge to see who has the best ribs.

Both Friday and Saturday feature the Maryland State BBQ Championship.

More than 50 teams from will compete in the championship for a cash prize of $12,500 the chance to compete in the annual Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbecue in Lynchburg, TN, and The American Royal in Kansas City, MO, according to a release.

The bash is the largest fundraising event for the Bel Air Downtown Alliance and, while it is free to the public, there is a $1 donation/admission fee for the Beer and Wine Garden.

"It’s a pretty nominal fee and it essentially boils down to your first drink costing $5 instead of $4,” Downtown Alliance Director Scott Walker said in a press release.

The event will also play host to the Harford County Boys and Girls Club Kiss a Pig event.

WXCY 103.7 FM is sponsoring the main stage with performances planned from local bands Walk-Ins Welcome, The Klassix, Head Rush, Fiction 20 Down, and Nashville recording artist Jon Pardi.

The bash takes place from 4-10 p.m. Friday and from noon-10 p.m. Saturday outside the Mary Risteau State Office Building located at 2 S. Bond St., Bel Air.
