A man was hit by a car near the Festival at Bel Air.

White Hall resident Joshua L. Aversano, 21, died Saturday of injuries sustained when he was hit by a car while running across Bel Air South Parkway, according to a press release from the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the 1600 block of Bel Air South Parkway at about 6:30 p.m. Friday after receiving a report of a pedestrian hit by a car.

Upon responding, they discovered that Aversano, the pedestrian, had been struck by a 2003 Kia Sedona driven by Kimberly A. Enders of the 500 block of Sellrus Court in Fallston.

Deputies determined that Enders was traveling west in the right turn lane on Bel Air South parkway towards Rt. 24 when Aversano, who was not in a designated cross walk, ran across the east- and west-bound lanes of travel.

Aversano was struck by the Sedona while in the right turn lane, according to the statement. The impact threw him to the sidewalk.

He was transported to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries where he died late Saturday afternoon.

The cause was determined to be pedestrian error, and there are no charges pending against the driver of the Sedona, according to the press release.

There is a sidewalk on both sides of belair south parkway nearest to 24, There is no crosswalk allowing someone to cross Belair south parkway at this intersection. Please put one in!

I agree, the name and address of the driver should not be published.

Please remove the drivers name. She was not at fault and I am sure her guilt level is horrible right now. So sad for all involved, and I hope the county takes a look at the need for a crosswalk there.

It's "news" people. It's public record. Whats the big deal about publishing a name? Nobody claimed the driver was at fault. The article even said "pedestrian error".

True, but do you not read comments? People are mean no matter what. There will always be that one person to blame an innocent person. That's just my opinion.

I'm pretty sure there's a crosswalk, I've seen pedestrians push the magical walk button, but so sad it is...for both families., the driver that will live with this / own this accident for the rest of his or her life and the pedestrians family and their loss.

Was there today there are crosswalks going all four ways. Only those crossing 24 have buttons. The two running parallell to 24 to be fair have a short distance between them and the stop line and motorist frequently treat it as the stop line.

I'm a little disappointed that the headlines say "White Man"...color had nothing to do with this news and shouldn't have been mentioned!!! I'm a white guy and it just disturbs me that we are supposed to be "color-blind" and that headline simply inappropriate!!!

The name of the driver is public record. Both she and the victim were involved in the accident making it appropriate to publish both names. As the article indicates, she is not charged and no charges are pending. The article reflects the police investigation and does not accuse her of a crime. This is certainly an accident and a tragedy.

Just because you aren't legally guilty doesn't mean another driver in the same situation wouldn't have resulted in a different outcome. Far too many pedestrians being hit lately...don't know what happened here, but I drive these roads and it's fairly obvious half the people out there need a refresher course in good judgement and courtesy.

Karl - as you stated you don't know what happened here, so it is ridiculous that you made the statement that another driver would have resulted in a different outcome. He ran out DIRECTLY in front of the driver, after running in front of a stopped car. Think before you post.

Runners, joggers, and cyclist all need to pay more attention. I almost hit a guy on a bicycle last week in the same senario. Lucky for him I WAS paying attention. But you can never assume that drivers see you and what you are doing.

People are so incredibly insensitive. A young man lost his life in a tragic accident and people are on here debating over who was at fault? This man's family is surely devastated. And the driver is probably struggling with incomprehensible guilt, guilt that she will carry around for the rest of her life. Maybe you should put your energy towards saying a prayer for both instead of looking up criminal records.

I have no record...of course that isn't my real name, but I don't and that really isn't the point. I'm not blaming this lady, never did...just seems like way too many pedestrians being hit. We share the road; lots of drivers think the road belongs to them...we've got to do better than this. How many times have you been stuck in traffic behind a horrible accident...when the traffic finally creeps past it many drivers hit the rocket speed out of there; it's like nothing sinks in. Should the death of a kid be the wake up call. I would hope it doesn't need to come to that. Do 30 in a 30 on almost any road in this county and watch the stream of cars that end up on your bumper. Wings is right...if he'd of hit this biker he wouldn't have been cited either, but this is somebody's life we're talking about and it's worth being cautious even if you have the right of way.

You're not blaming this lady and never did? In the comment that you deleted you tracked down her court records and said it was probably her fault because she got a citation for speeding last year.

Siege...absolutely not what I said, nor did I delete any comments. She was indeed cited for doing 53 in a 30, but the reference was about levels of caution in congested and/or residential areas and what surely seems to be a rash of pedestrians being struck - this one where a young man, not so far from childhood ends up being killed - that's a horrible outcome. In almost every case the driver's have not been cited but that doesn't mean in every case with all these episodes none of these were avoidable. I drive these roads and I see the way people drive; sometimes it's beyond horrendous. Maybe it ought to be a whole lot tougher to get a driver's license and a whole lot easier to lose it. If you see a posted speed of 30 it's because the road has been designated as more hazardous meaning they want you to be able to stop quickly. Try doing 30 anywhere in this town and watch what happens. Comments intended not so much for this lady...but for the rest of us; it'd be nice to feel safe going to the mailbox.

If you're in the right turn lane, most people would normally break or at least be slowing down before you turn. I'm not sure how fast you would have to be going to hit and kill someone, but I feel like all drivers and pedestrians need to more cautious. Looking both ways one extra time walking or driving could be the difference between life and death. This is a heartbreaking story for all involved.

The other day a young man made a mistake and entered the road on foot. He stepped into the path of an oncoming auto. Neither are to blame. An "accident" occurred. He passed away leaving his Friends and Family with tears of sadness. The one who drove the auto , she has her own sadness. I believe that we need encouraging words of comfort for both families. I pray for the Aversano family for the loss of Josh and know they will see him again one day and for the Driver of the van and her children in the auto with her at the time to find peace. Blessings to the families of all who are involved. Lets not debate, lets give loving words of compassion to them.
Thanks all

Josh's father reached out to our family this morning to invite us to the memorial to celebrate Josh's life. We were both overcome with emotion speaking with each other for the first time! Just the begining of a healing process for so many. So many questions, no clear answers! I have experienced great losses in my life but none from this angle. We pray for all family and friends of Josh, we pray that that Lord will give you all peace, strength, and his love. I don't know much about the family but I can say after our phone conversation that I know that they are a loving and compassionate people with big hearts. I could write for days but I will conclude simply with LOVE! Love coquers ALL!!!!!!!

@marge Neal Ok I know her name is listed in public record. But does involving her name in the artical add any thing to the story and would leaving her name out of it really take away from the story. Ask your self would you want your loved ones name broadcast for everyone to know what had happen to her. Look around people are mean. Removing her name is the respectable thing to do. You know I Speak the truth. Can you sleep with your self.

Every article written about this accident has had her name listed. Every article states it isn't her fault. Yes, some people are mean, but that's life and if you can't take it then you need to grow a stronger backbone. The opinion of others shouldn't mean anything to you as long as you know the truth. From what I've seen on here most people have been overwhelmingly supportive of both families in the wake of this tragedy and I don't think it matters that her name was published. It's not a tarnish to her name, it's simply something that has happened and if anything I think it might help her to know that so many people she doesn't even know sympathize with her and support her.

May God's grace lift up the Aversano family and protect the hearts of the Enders family. This is such a tragic accident for all involved. Lets not debate...lets support and love. We all know that although Harford County is a growing place, but it's still small enough that the names of involved parties would have gotten out. Just love them all, support them and stop interjecting un-necessary opinions.
