PNC Bank Robbed, Suspect Arrested Near Walmart

A Bel Air man was taken into custody Thursday near the Walmart in Fallston.

A Bel Air man was arrested and charged Thursday after allegedly robbing a Forest Hill bank.

A Baltimore County police aviation unit tracked the suspect's vehicle from the PNC bank where the holdup occurred to an area near the Fallston Walmart, according to a release from the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

That's where police arrested David William Hayes, 28, about a half-hour after the robbery, the release said. Hayes, of the 800 block of May Court in Bel Air, was charged with robbery and theft between $1,000 and $10,000 in connection with the incident.

Around 4:45 p.m. Thursday, a man described as 6-foot-2, with a thin build in his twenties entered the PNC Bank in the 2300 block of Rock Spring Road in Forest Hill, according to the release. The man, later identified as Hayes, allegedly demanded cash then drove away, police said.

A Baltimore County aviation unit was already in the air when the robbery was reported and was able to track the suspect's car from the bank.

Harford County sheriff's deputies and Maryland State Police were able to find the car through the aviation unit’s visual cues. There was heavy traffic at the time, according to the release.

Around 5:15 p.m., deputies stopped the car in the 400 block of Whitaker Mill Road in Fallston, near the Walmart, and took Hayes into custody, according to police.

At his bail review hearing Friday in Harford County District Court, Hayes was ordered to be held without bail. He was still in custody Friday at the Harford County Detention Center.

Some of the details in this story are false. The car was not stopped by police, in fact, the car has not been found yet as well as the driver of said dark sedan has not been identified. Hayes fled into the woods behind Walmart where he was apprehended.
