Reier Makes it a Race in Bel Air Election

The only incumbent not to file for the election so far is Terence Hanley.

Robert Reier has made the 2011 Bel Air election a four-person race for three open seats on the Board of Commissioners. Reier informed Patch in a telephone call Wednesday afternoon that he registered around 1 p.m.

Reier, a downtown chiropractor, joined Edward Hopkins, who registered Tuesday, as the second incumbent on this year's ballot. Only Terence Hanley, who occupies the third seat that will be up for election on Nov. 8, has not declared his candidacy.

Susan Burdette also registered Tuesday. Greg Adolph was the first candidate in the race.

Hanley previously said he would run again, but would not comment recently as he faces a pair of legal battles—one over a loan dispute and the other involving a theft charge.

The filing deadline for the non-partisan election is Oct. 7. Candidates must be registered voters and have lived within town limits for at least six months prior to the election.

Town Hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 to allow for late filing. There is a $25 fee.

Residents can check their voter registration status by calling the Harford County Board of Elections at 410-638-3565.
