Ruppersberger Retains District 2 House Seat

The Baltimore County Democrat first claimed the seat in 2003.

U.S. Rep. C.A. "Dutch" Ruppersberger III was re-elected in the District 2 House of Representatives race, defeating challenger Nancy Jacobs, a Harford County Republican.

Ruppersberger, a Baltimore County Democrat who first won his seat in 2003, said following his reelection that it was time to pull together as Americans to address the country's most pressing needs.

"We have some very serious issues, we have fiscal issues, we have debt issues, we have deficit issues, we have international issues that are very serious, terrorism issues," he said. "So we need to come together now."

Although his party will remain the minority in the House of Representatives, Ruppersberger said that he would be able to work across the aisle with Republicans. He pointed to his work on the Intelligence Committee as an example of where he has worked with Republicans in an effective manner.

At an election after party, Jacobs, a state senator representing portions of Harford and Cecil counties, commended Ruppersberger for running a clean campaign and hinted at another possible run for the seat in 2014.

"I think we've laid a lot of ground work for the future," she said.

Libertarian candidate Leo Dymowski also challenged Ruppersberger for the seat.

I'll give Republicans credit, they keep trying. Sen. Jacobs didn't stand a chance.

It is a shame that Voters do not seem to care what their Reps do or not do. Dutch in ten years as a Congressman has only sponsered ONE bill and that was for commemorative coins. He has not addressed the issues facing us like jobs,(fiscal), deficit, terrorism, etc. At least Nancy Jacobs, as a State Senator has been working for us. Congress has earned the lowest rating since its inception and Dutch is part of Congress - duh, what does that tell you? We really need a change in direction and that is not to continue to follow all the failed programs offered in the past 4 yrs.

Wow, you're so wrong, it's amazing to me that you've even formulated a complete sentence. Hotels for Heroes, CISPA, Digital Coast Act, Restoring Integrity to Public Donations Act, Safe Haven for Heroes, Childcare Protection Act, Opiate Addiction Treatment Act, Secret Service Retirement Act, Strengthening America's Satellite Industry Act, and various acts suspending rates of duty on imports from McCormick were all sponsored by Dutch just in the 112th congress. You need to change where you get your information from. Nancy Jacobs would have been one more member of congress to just say no when she didn't get her way and not compromise on anything. I'm glad Dutch won and look forward to what he'll do for us in the next 2 years.
