Second Harford County Classroom Helper Charged With Sex Abuse

UPDATE: (1:14 p.m.)—An inclusion helper at Bel Air High School was charged Friday with sex abuse of a minor after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

This is the second case of its kind to impact Harford County Public Schools within the past month.

Anthony Leon Farris Jr., 24, of the 1000 block of Pirates Court in Edgewood, was charged Friday with sex abuse of a minor, fourth-degree sex offense and perverted practice, according to online court records.

The charges stem from allegations Farris had a sexual relationship with 16-year-old female student, according to a release from the Bel Air Police Department. He was taken into custody Friday at the board of education headquarters in Bel Air, the release states.

Farris was released from the Harford County Detention Center Saturday after posting $50,000 bond, court records show. A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. March 21 in Harford County District Court.

The case is being investigated by Bel Air Police in conjunction with the Harford County Child Advocacy Center, a unit that specializes in investigating mistreatment of children.
