Sovereign Bank Robbed, Patterson Mill Locked Down

A Bel Air Bank was robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon.

A Bel Air bank was robbed at gunpoint Monday, prompting police and school officials to place nearby Patterson Mill High School on lockdown.

Around 11:08 a.m. a man wearing a hard hat and dust or surgical mask walked into Sovereign Bank, located at 1816 Emmorton Road, according to a preliminary release from Edward Hopkins, spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

The masked man pulled a gun and ordered a bank employee to give him cash then ran out the back of the bank, according to Hopkins. No one was injured during the course of the robbery.

It is unclear if this robbery is connected to several recent robberies around the county, Hopkins wrote.

The school was placed on lockdown for a short time as a precaution while deputies searched the area.

The robber is described as a white man in his forties wearing a hard hat, dust or surgical mask, blue jeans, work boots and a plaid flannel shirt.

Gun control as you think isn't the answer, as it already exists. It is called PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and RESPECT for others. I don't own guns....but know how to use them and have many friends that own them responsibly. hunting for quite a few is a way of life and how they feed themselves. Nothing wrong with that. This individual made a poor choice.

Gun control will never keep the guns out of criminals hands, only law abiding citizens. I hate to tell you this, but hunting is necessary to thin the herds, can you imagine how many deer would over run out county if you banned hunting? Your statement is very irresponsible, have you any confirmation the robbery suspect is some "crazed" hunter?

If he didn't have a gun, he could've had a knife or threatened with a bomb. Take away our guns? What does that solve? No way to protect yourself, but your damn right those criminals will have them!

Maybe we should make a law against robbing banks!!! Oh wait, that's already illegal...We need to outlaw surgical masks, how can we get a clear picture of the suspect when they are wearing a mask!!!

Great, Tom! While we're at it, ban cars--how many accidents have killed people in the area recently?! What about pools? They 'drown' people. Ice and snow--what murderous road conditions they cause!

Pools are easy, the government just raises your taxes again to pay for the mandatory public section union thug government life guard who just happens to be a child molester or and thief like some of the TSA workers.

Unbelievable, how many existing laws did this guy break but I am sure if we pass a few more gun laws he will run right down to the local PD and turn his in.

The only thing that will ever help is more strict penalty on the criminals who commit these crimes. You wanna rob a bank or hurt a kid well if you get caught we cut your balls off on national tv so the country can watch u bleed to death. Then and only then will they think twice before doing such idiotic stuff!!

To me it is just a question of risk vs reward. If one greatly outweighs the other, the decision is made. Today there seems to be no risk whatever. Chances are one will not be caught, and in the remote possibility that one is caught, the chances of doing any time are remote. So go ahead and rob that bank, drive 100 mph, or whatever you to do. So until we get serious with criminals, maybe not like it was in Henry VIII's day when nearly everything was a capital offense, but if things continue to go unchecked, everyone will have to carry.

I moved to Harford County for the country feel and slow pace.....in the 5 years I've lived here, things sure have changed.....and not for the better. I am not sure if it is the county changing.....or the country's economy driving people to desperation. Whichever it is, it is way too sad.....

You moved to Harford County 5 years ago for "slow pace"? You're about 25 years too late. Country feel? Move to West Virginia. Harford County is suburb, no matter how close to the PA line you get.
