Tornado Confirmed in Harford County

A tornado passed through Friday with winds up to 100 mph, causing damage primarily in the Fallston area, the National Weather Service confirmed Saturday.

The tornado, classified as an F1 tornado, caused serious property damage to the Fallston area, and three people were injured after a building in the area collapsed.

Based on the Fujita tornado damage scale, an F1 tornado has winds between 73 and 112 miles per hour and causes moderate damage, according to the National Weather Service.

One patient was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, a second to Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore and the third individual received medical treatment on his own, according to a release from Harford County government.

The names of those injured in the storm were not provided.

About 26,000 residents and businesses lost power during the storm  throughout BGE's service area, including Harford County, according to the release. Power was restored to all customers by Sunday.

The county estimates the storm caused at least $1 million in damages, the release states.

"Three structures, a 14 foot x 70 foot mobile office trailer, a one-story block auto refinishing and detailing business and a vacant one story, wood frame garage were destroyed during the storm," the release states.

Other homes and businesses received damage to roofs, windows and signs and dozens of vehicles were damaged or destroyed by the tornado, according to the release.

The county Department of Public Works supplied six dumpsters to collect  debris such as tree limbs and leaves.
