Visions for Vacancies: Manny's Restaurant

What would you like to see in this commercial vacancy on the border of Bel Air and Forest Hill?

After serving the community for 32 years, Manny's Restaurant now sits vacant.

The restaurant's closing caught a number of local customers by surprise.

The business, which was family-owned since 1980, has been closed since October 2012.

Now, the windows of 1433 Rock Spring Road are covered in brown paper and a hand-written sign thanks customers for their support over the years.

What business do you think would be a good fit for this commercial property? Tell us in the comments.

We have been missing Manny's! I still would like to see a Panera in the area. Or another food company that has a great breakfast. The area is kind lacking of good breakfast choices.

panera or Buon Gusto
Panera has good breakfast and lunch options; and Buon Gusto is a great local pizza shop great for lunch or dinner

Would like Manny's back. Maybe a small coffee shop would work, or perhaps a bakery?

How about a consignment shop, similar to Bearly Used on Main St.

Long John Silver! Harford County doesn't have one. I think it would do a booming business!!!

Yes, what we really need is more semi-fast food and fast food that make us unique and gives us an identity that says Bel Air North (or what ever is the name now). What Bel Air needs is a bookstore. Except for consignment shop, everything suggested here is too big for the Manny's space.

People.......you are missing a gem for a breakfast restaurant. You've got to try "Sunny Day Cafe" on Main St. in Bel Air. (across from Towne Barbers) My husband and I had a great meal just this morning. Fresh waffle and scrapple cooked to perfection, no extra spray oil, etc. ~Like your mom or g.mom would have made for you.~

As for the Manny's spot. I think Brother's Pizza (down from Rita's ice) should move across the street so they can have seating. Their Sicilian Deep Dish pizza is out of this world, actually all pizzas and subs/wraps are wonderful. My teenage children and their friends just love this place. Try the home made ranch dressing w/pizza, fries, or salads and you'll be hooked. The owner used to cook at Peerce's Plantation years ago (now The Grille at Peerce's).

No wait...since the shopping center is located in Frog Town, how about a combination water lilly and swimming pool store.

The thing about Manny's I miss is that it was a family-owned business, not a chain store, and the food was great. I haven't been able to get a good pizza in Bel Air since they closed. :-(

Sad to see Mannys leave, since it was a family business. I would love for Hobby Lobby to come to this area. I know that space is too small.

Something original needs to go here. I mean really ...another Panera, Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts?! Doesn't Harford county have enough of those already? How about a REAL NY style deli or a non chain bakery. Or a real taqueria? A convenient local Farm store with all locally made/grown products? Harford county needs some imagination. Seriously.
