Yesterday, Governor O’Malley joined Startup Maryland and dozens of local entrepreneurs and small business owners for the first-ever “Pitch Across Maryland Bus Tour.” The two and a half week tour is designed to connect entrepreneurs to our robust infrastructure of incubators, colleges, small businesses and research facilities while at the same time helping them highlight and promote their business ideas.
Before Governor O’Malley joined everyone at BWTech@UMBC he hopped on the bus and did an interview with the co-chairs of Startup Maryland. We wanted to share his behind-the-scenes interview where he talks about why Maryland is one of the best places for entrepreneurs to start a business. Watch the video to learn more.
Martin O'Malley is the governor of Maryland. He writes a regular blog for his official website.

O'Malley is an assclown. Ridiculous for Patch to post his meaningless blogs. Focus on local news not covered elsewhere.

Good description of O'Malley, JTS53. I agree. Patch would better use this space for weather forecasting, although that's a waste of time too.

O'Malley wants to get those new businesses started so he can tax and regulate them to death once they have taken root.

MAryland is a great place for startups especially biotech. Just take a cruise around UMBC's Biotech Park.

To OMalley, businesses are just a "funding opportunity" for more government, and government employee unions.

Businesses are unionized too, so what's your point?

Wow, you guys hate O'Malley. That is a surprise. He beat your boy twice, stomping him the second time. Move on, let go of it. Try to win an election, losers.

The Gov. is really a silly character. He has no interest in solving the state's economic challenges

Economic challenges? Like what?
Unemployment? Maryland's unemployment rate is 7%.
State not business friendly? Doesn't matter. Businesses come regardless. Why? Maryland's the richest state in the Union:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2206395/Maryland-ranked-richest-state-U-S--Mississippi-place-poorest.html
As much as I don't like many of O'Malley's policies, some of them have worked.
You guys live in one of the better states in this country, and you don't even have the vision to appreciate it. Honestly. If you don't like it, get out. When Ehlrich was governor, he spent like a similar drunken sailor.
See spending outlays from 2004 to 2007:
2004 (the first budget that was all Ehrlich): 22.8 billion -http://dbm.maryland.gov/agencies/operbudget/Documents/2004/fy2004budgethighlights.pdf
2008 (the last budget that was all Ehrlich): 30 billion
http://dbm.maryland.gov/agencies/operbudget/Documents/2008/fy08_budgethighlights.pdf
That's right kids, Revenues and Spending both went up 32% over Ehrlich's 4 years.
Now, let's look at O'Malley's FY13 budget: 35.5 billion
http://dbm.maryland.gov/agencies/operbudget/Documents/2013/FY2013BudgetHighlights.pdf
Over O'Malley's first 5 years, state revenue and spending has gone up only 18%.
So, in reality...Ehrlich was the much bigger 'drunken spender' while in office. Crazy...huh?

Fortunately for Omalley...the vast majority of the public are apathetic and pay no attention to politics, it's all an illusion,or blur to them. Many will take the bait...

Has there been a study done to see how Maryland's job scene and economy would be faring if we removed all of the federal government and defense contractor jobs? I get tired of hearing how great things are when clearly we are sucking off of the federal teat to support the state. My cousin lives in Severna Park and his entire neighborhood consists of federal workers. I'm sure that's the case in PG and Montgomery County as well. Surely that artificially inflates the state's median income level.

Gee Frank - thanks for the geography lesson...so what you are saying is without the DC suburbs Maryland would be South Dakota. Thanks for putting the exclamation point on my previous post. Just wondering when OMalley will own up to this "factor" and stop saying that Maryland is so far ahead of other states that don't have the benefit of proximity to DC.

Right...and some states rely on their oil/gas/coal/etc. and some states rely on their rivers/coasts/fertile land and some states rely on their....
Of course all states have various inherent benefits. Want to point out how the sky is blue, too, JD1?

JD1: It's an interesting question that no one would be able to actually answer with any kind of accruacy.
Additionally, let's say for arguments sake that Washington D.C. was actually in the midwest. You don't honestly think states like Maryland and Virginia would be governed the exact same way they have been now...do you?

Big government has created a national bureaucracy to teach start-ups how to grow, another OBAMA administration joke, a bunch of committees and overlords, ministering to the local entrepreneur. If they don't watch out they will make entrepreneurs as admired as politicians. Take the money, give it to Mtech and get out of the way. So much noise, and OMalley likes music.
