Sen. Nancy Jacobs is set to announce that she will seek to unseat incumbent Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger in the 2012 election.
Jacobs, a four-term Republican from Harford County, has scheduled a news conference at JADs Caddyshack in Essex on Thursday. Sources familiar with the campaign say she will announce her intentions to run for the 2nd Congressional District seat at that time.
Jacobs formed an exploratory committee to look at the race less than a month ago.
The place of the announcement is also significant since it is in Ruppersberger's home county where he served two terms as county executive and two more on the Baltimore County Council. Ruppersberger, a Democrat, was first elected to Congress in 2002.
In recent months, Jacobs, who represents Harford and Cecil counties, has befriended the owners of JADs Caddyshack, sources familiar with the campaign said.
Jacobs would join Larry Smith, a Timonium resident and staffer for Republican Rep. Andy Harris, in the Republican primary. She would not have to give up her seat in the state Senate unless she defeated Ruppersberger.

Hope she wins. She really works hard for her constituents. I wish she was the governor of this state.

Senator Jacobs is a class act and would make a very good Congresswoman, I believe she would be a much better rep. then we have now.

Ruppersberger is a prime example why there should be term limits. He's done nothing to improve anything since 2002 yet uninformed brain dead democrats vote for him because there's a D next to his name. Then those same democrats complain about Dundalk and Essex being run down. Term limits not only keep government from becoming a career, it keeps uniformed voters from ruining our states and country by voting the same do nothing crooks back in office for decades.

I am not a Democrat or Republican, but I am from Essex and I guarantee you Rob that I am not brain dead and I am MORE informed than you will ever be!

At least she didn't vote for Obamacare and say that it was just going to be like everyone having to pay MAIF and no one has a problem with that. That is what he said on C 4 .That was his reason, well if anyone has been forced to deal with MAIF they know how unjust and expensive it is .He has lost touch with the average unemployed voter who make up the majority of his district

I had the pleasure of working with Sen. Jacobs last year battling the unjust increase in tolls. It was Sen. Jacobs who led the charge to oppose them. I wish her well.

While she did a good job on the toll issue, the other users comment about her not showing up for votes is also a valid observation she has phoned it in for years. She also does not live in the district which is something that has always made me wonder, I wish her the best because my dislike for her is only eclipsed by my dislike for Mr. Ruppersberger

People should not forget about Candidate Larry Smith. Check him out at larrysmith4congress.com. Larry Smith is an Army Lt. Colonel Afghanistan Veteran who understands how the Pentagon works since he was an inteligence officer who worked there. He is a champion of small business. We need Larry in congress to take the shackles off of small business and our economy so that business' can grow and create jobs. We need him in Washington to restore fiscal responsiblity there. Dutch however refuses to fight the biggest problem that threatens any hope of an economic recovery which is our national debt. Dutch proclaims that he is a fiscally conservative democrat but nothing could be further from the truth. There has not been a spending bill that he has not liked and tax increase he was not for. Finding out the concerns of the people by meeting with them face to face not face to camera as Dutch does sitting in Washington only meeting with constituents when it is time to get re-elected again. Larry does not intend to continue the Dutch status quo. Larry Smith is eager to lead. Larry intends to be a champion on balancing our budget, paying our national debt off and by doing this securing a healthy economy again for us and for our children. He does not intend to continue what Dutch currently does which is to go to Washington and keep voting for high spending bills and piling debt on our country and further putting our economy at risk of plunging into another recession or depression.

I think this upcoming election will be, as they say in the west, - a wild and woolly one.
