Exciting New Training Opportunity

The Susquehanna Workforce Centers and Cecil College are partnering together to offer an exciting new training opportunity.  This new program offers CDL training and GED training within the same program.  The program is available at no cost to people who meet the qualifications. 

During this program students can earn a MD CDL permit, CDL “B” license, a CDL “A” license, the Smith System Defensive Driving Certificate, a Bus Endorsement “S”, a Passenger Endorsement “P” and an improvement in their learning scores towards the GED.  This exciting new training opportunity is time sensitive.  Please call one of The Susquehanna Workforce Centers As Soon As Possible for more information.  Aberdeen:  410-272-5400, BelAir:  410-836-4603, Elkton:  410-996-0550.

In order to be eligible for this training program, candidates must be MD residents, they may live in any county in MD.  They must be 18 years old and have no GED or High School Diploma.  Candidates must have a MD driver’s license (not a provisional license) with less than 3 points in the last 3 years.  Candidates must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug test.  Candidates must be able to read and write in English and have no DUIs or DWIs in the last 5 years.

If a candidate is accepted into the program, they will be able to attend an entry program 2 nights per week to help them prepare for the CDL permit test.  Upon completion of permit test, students will begin meeting 2 nights a week and Saturdays and Sundays for classroom skills and driving skills.  Students will have access to a tutor to help them if they need additional help.  An employment coach will be available to students near the end of the program to help them search for job announcements and apply for jobs.

This unique training opportunity is made available through a grant awarded to Cecil College and funding provided by the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
