UPDATE (7:20 p.m.)—There is a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Anne Arundel, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties and Baltimore City, in effect until 8:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued the warning, stating the storm may deliver damaging winds exceeding 60 mph. Officials with the weather service advised staying indoors and away from windows.

The National Weather Services has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of Maryland.

The watch is in effect until 11 p.m. for the city of Baltimore, along with Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George's counties.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop, according to the weather service, with stronger thunderstorms capable of producing locally damaging winds gusts and large hail.

The NWS notes that an isolated tornado is also possible.
