The National Weather Service placed Harford County under a winter storm warning Sunday afternoon.

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are anticipated that will make travel difficult or impossible.

Approximately 5 to 7 inches of snow may fall Sunday in Harford County, followed by a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain that will change to rain by Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast said that up to two-tenths of an inch of ice may accumulate.

Stating that multiple crashes occurred Sunday morning, Harford County emergency operations officials advised citizens to stay off the roads.

Some roads were already treacherous Sunday afternoon in Bel Air.

According to the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, the northbound ramp from the Emmorton Bypass (Route 24) past Harford Mall to the Bel Air Bypass was backed up and vehicles were having a difficult time making it up the hill.

The fire company also advised that Bolton Street and Tollgate Road were closed.

Harford County declared a snow emergency at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the Coordinated Highways Action Response Team reported. That means that vehicles cannot be parked on roads designated as "snow emergency routes."

Alleghany, Carroll, Cecil, Frederick, Garrett, Montgomery and Washington counties also declared snow emergencies Sunday.

There's already 6 1/2 inches here, on top of our deck table, in N. Bel Air/FH area. It's very fluffy. DON'T SHOVEL. I'd suggest leaving it down for now, for traction later. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?
