BGE Activates New Equipment in Forest Hill After Outage

Residents were without power from Friday afternoon until Sunday.

BGE took the first step toward improving a Forest Hill community’s power supply Tuesday, just days after a for many homeowners.

After months of delays, the utility activated equipment that was installed in June. It will make it easier to transfer power during outages—a strategy that failed during 100 degree-plus heat—according to a BGE spokeswoman.

“This is part of the immediate, short-term solutions,” Linda Foy wrote in an email. “When there’s a problem with a piece of equipment and that problem causes an outage, we now have more options for transferring service to other equipment and keeping the customers in service. So the way customers might notice the improvement is that lengthy outages should be less frequent.”

The activations, which took place near the intersection of Boggs Road and Belvue Drive, are not part of the $5 million investment the company is making in communities around Bear Hollow Court and Yvette Drive, where power failed Friday afternoon to late Sunday.

A planned outage shut down power to the area during the work.

Foy said the company still plans to hold a community meeting in the coming weeks to address last weekend's outage.
