Groundbreaking First Habitat Build In Bel Air Town Limits

This week, for the very first time, Habitat for Humanity will break ground on a project within Bel Air town limits.

A ceremonial groundbreaking on the Bel Air build site is scheduled to take place at noon Friday at 404 Giles Street.

Habitat Susquehanna has built 69 homes throughout Harford and Cecil counties during its 20 years in existence, but high land costs have largely contributed to keeping the organization out of Bel Air, according to a release from Habitat.

"Thanks to the generosity of Harford County Government, The Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Town of Bel Air, this home will finally become a reality," the release states.

The organization's mission is "to build simple, decent affordable homes in partnership with qualifying low-income families," according to Habitat.

This new project will soon be the new home to a family of longtime Bel Air residents.

“Habitat is going to completely change our lives. We will move from a two bedroom apartment into our very own home,” said Holly Crouse, future owner of the Bel Air Habitat house said in the release.

“If I could get together with all of the volunteers and everyone involved in our journey, I would tell them ‘thank you!’ They each will have a hand in changing my family forever," Crouse concluded.
