Harford County Could Get up to 8 Inches of Snow Overnight

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning.

Just when you thought it was safe, another snow storm is poised to pound the area. With a Winter Storm Watch in effect, the National Weather Service projects five to eight inches of accumulation for the area Monday night into Tuesday morning.

ABC2News' Justin Berk is not as bold, predicting only three to six inches, but a messy post-holiday commute seems inevitable.

In advance of the storm, Bel Air town officials ask residents to park in driveways and parking lots so that they can clear streets as efficiently as possible. Meanwhile, BGE and the State Highway Administration are offering their usual tips for local residents.

“If you have a choice not to travel tonight, please don’t,” SHA Administrator Neil J. Pedersen said in a statement. “Our crews will work throughout the night, but depending on when it stops snowing, all routes may not be completely cleared by morning rush hour. Please check conditions before driving in the morning and allow plenty of extra travel time."

BGE asks for patience restoring power to any residents who lose electric.

“While BGE is prepared to begin restoring electric service as safely and as quickly as possible, hazardous road conditions will extend the travel times of restoration crews which could extend outage durations,” said A. Christopher Burton, senior vice president of gas and electric operations and planning for BGE, in a statement. “We thank our customers in advance for their cooperation and understanding.”

Schools figure to be delayed, if not closed, due to overnight conditions. If that is the case, —the first day of what is now spring break—is expected to be used for classes.
