Harford County Library Administrator Announces Retirement

Claudia Sumler has has led the Public Services division for nine years.

Claudia Sumler will be stepping down as Harford County Public Library Public Services Administrator. She announced her retirement will be effective Nov. 1.

Sumler joined Harford County Public Library in 2006 and has led the Public Services division for nine years, according to a release. Her long and successful library career began in 1970 at the University of Illinois and includes leadership roles at Kent County Public Library, the Cooperating Libraries of Central Maryland, Anne Arundel County Public Library and Camden County Library in New Jersey.

During her expansive career, Sumler has also held various positions with the American Library Association, Public Library Association, Maryland Library Association and the New Jersey Library Association. In 2001, she was selected as the New Jersey Library Association Librarian of the Year.
