New Playground Equipment In Memory of Fallen Firefighter Kurt Chenowith

Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation teamed up with the Kurt M. Chenowith Foundation for a dedication ceremony at Annie’s Playground. The foundation raised money for the installation of a fire engine themed piece of playground equipment at Annie’s Playground to honor fallen firefighter, Kurt Chenowith. The dedication ceremony was held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Annie’s Playground located at Edgeley Grove Park at 864 Smith Lane in Fallston. 
 
“Annie’s Playground and the dedication ceremony for the new equipment is a great way to honor two amazing people. This is a way to turn a tragic loss into something positive for the entire community,” said Harford County Executive David R. Craig. 
 
Annie’s Playground is a beautiful playground in Fallston that serves as a loving tribute to a little girl who tragically died and to all children who have left us too soon. It was born out of a vibrant community’s heart to turn this devastation into a life-giving memorial. 
 
The popular playground has a new piece of equipment. The fire truck serves as a tribute to the life of a Fallston Volunteer and paid Firefighter. Kurt Chenowith died in a 2011 motorcycle accident. The foundation decided the new piece of playground equipment was the best way to honor him. 
 
“This new playground equipment is a way to honor an amazing young man who dedicated his life to his community,” said Marilea Owens with the Kurt M. Chenowith Memorial Foundation. 
 
The Foundation plans to offer scholarships to Harford and Baltimore County students. The scholarships give $1,000 each to two girls and two boys. The scholarships are aimed at unsung heroes. Lil Tykes also contributed a grant for the playground.
