Plumtree Park To Reopen In Part This Week

Part of Bel Air's oldest park will reopen at the end of the week, the rest will likely be open to the public the at some point during the first week in July.

Plumtree Park in Bel Air has been closed for renovations since the start of June and was expected to reopen Wednesday.

Some additional cleanup is required to make sure the playground is safe, however, so the opening will be delayed several days, Randy Robertson, department of public works director for the Town of Bel Air, wrote in an email to Patch.

Public works crews will be cleaning and preparing the park for reopening Thursday and Robertson expects to reopen a portion of the park to the public on Friday.

The newly installed play set on the east side of the park will likely not open this week, Robertson wrote.

The area surrounding the new play set will remain enclosed in temporary fencing until cleanup is completed and a mulch fiber cushion layer can be installed.

"It may be through the end of next week until we can complete that," Robertson wrote Wednesday.

Even with the minor delay, the park is looking fresh with new playground equipment and edging.

Earlier this year, contractors unearthed a natural stream that runs through Plumtree Park, according to the town's spring newsletter.

Installing paved pathways along the stream and planting new trees in the park are also part of planned improvements.

"All of these changes are inspired by the stream," Kevin Small, Bel Air Director of Planning, said in the brief newsletter article. "We are bringing nature back to Bel Air’s oldest neighborhood park."
