Most of Maryland Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

The National Weather Service said thunderstorms with strong winds and hail may develop.

UPDATE (5:45 p.m.)—Much of the state is under a severe thunderstorm watch Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. for the following jurisdictions: Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Prince George's and Queen Anne's counties.

During the watch period, strong thunderstorms may develop that are capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail, according to the National Weather Service.

UPDATE (4:40 p.m.)—The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Harford County and eastern Baltimore County. The warning is in effect until 5:15 p.m.

Severe storms capable of producing wind gusts greater than 60 mph were detected in a line from Fallston to Kingsville at 4:22 p.m., moving east, according to the National Weather Service.

Perryman, Aberdeen and Havre de Grace were among the areas that could be impacted, the weather service reported, advising people to go inside and stay away from doors and windows.

The storm may bring cloud-to-ground lightning and damaging winds.

Initial report from 4:09 p.m. on Wednesday—There's a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Harford and Baltimore counties and Baltimore City until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued the warning at 4 p.m., minutes after reporting a storm had been detected in Cockeysville that was heading east.

Move indoors and stay away from doors and windows, the weather service advised.

The storm may bring cloud-to-ground lightning, winds greater than 60 mph and quarter-sized hail, the weather service reported.
