Weather Service to Harford County: 'Only Travel in Emergency'

The National Weather Service said Harford County was in for heavy snow.

Harford County was under a winter storm warning Monday, meaning the forecast called for significant amounts of snow that would make travel dangerous.

"Only travel in an emergency," the National Weather Service advised Sunday evening.

The winter storm warning—which the weather service issues when severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring—was effective from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

Harford, Carroll, Frederick and northern Baltimore counties were all included in the warning, which stated that three to six inches of snow may accumulate.

Rain overnight would change to rain, snow and sleet around dawn, according to the weather service, which reported precipitation would mostly be snow after 7 a.m.

The heaviest snowfall was expected between rush hour and late morning Monday, according to the forecast.

The weather service reported the snow should move east by the afternoon.

If people must travel, they should keep a flashlight, food and water in their vehicles, according to the weather service.

Harford County government and Aberdeen Proving Ground were opening on time but liberal leave was in effect for employees.
