Tree Falls at Bel Air Assisted Living Facility

Residents at Jacob's Well relied on a backup generator.

Despite a tree ripping out power from their community, more than 30 residents of a Bel Air assisted living facility were safe and sound, management said.

"A massive tree" fell on power lines around 6 a.m. Wednesday, causing a utility pole to snap in half, Jacob's Well Assisted Living Manager Ron Hanks told Bel Air Patch.

Icy weather caused the tree to fall, taking power lines along with it, at approximately 6 a.m., Hanks said.

"Thank the Lord we have a backup generator for the facility, and all residents are safe and warm," Hanks said.

Before noon, Hanks reported a BGE representative was on-site who said power would be restored within a few hours.

Approximately 13,000 BGE customers and 5,300 Delmarva customers were without power in Harford County at noon.
