Upper Chesapeake Alters Visiting Rules Due To Flu

Upper Chesapeake has restricted its visitation police at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and Harford Memorial Hospital. Also, check out some tips on preventing it from spreading.

Harford County's two hospitals will restrict visitor access to patients in order to help mitigate issues surrounding a high volume of flu cases.

In a statement shared with Patch Friday afternoon, Upper Chesapeake Health said it "is restricting its visitation policy in a measure to protect patients and to help control the spread of the flu this season. The visitation policy for Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air and Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace has been revised for the flu season."

Those revisions, effective immediately, include:

  • Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m.
  • No visitors who are sick
  • No visitors under 12 years of age
  • No more than 2 visitors at one time per patient

Those changes will remain in place until further notice, Upper Chesapeake said. The changes will be outlined, as well, via signage at the facility and the company website, www.uchs.org.

Upper Chesapeake also asks Harford County residents to take the following precautions to ward off infection:

  • Wash your hands
  • Cover your sneeze and cough
  • Stay home if you are sick
