Weather Service Warns of Windy Conditions, Wildfire Threat

The National Weather Service said winds and humidity in Harford pose fire dangers.

The National Weather Service has issued a "red flag" warning Sunday for parts of the mid-Atlantic, including Harford County.

"A red flag warning means that...the combination of gusty winds and low relative humidity will enhance the threat for the spread of wildfires," according to the weather service.

Just after noon Sunday, the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company reported that it responded to a small woods fire in the 1200 block of Bonaire Road in Forest Hill.

The red flag warning went into effect at 10:50 a.m. and will continue until 6 p.m. Sunday.

High winds between 20 to 25 miles an hour with gusts up to 40 miles per hour were expected throughout the day.

"Please no bonfires or burning during this fire weather watch," Darlington Volunteer Fire Company advised.

Conditions in Bel Air were "blustery" Sunday, according to the weather service, which forecast a high of 31 and a low of 18 degrees.

In addition to the red flag alert, the National Weather Service issued a gale warning and small craft advisory for the Chesapeake Bay.
