5 Things: Festive Weekend Events

Can't find anything new to do from Friday to Sunday? You just haven't looked hard enough. We have your whole weekend planned full of fun, festive events.

As the holiday season heats up—only 15 days until Christmas—there is plenty to do around town to get in the spirit. Whether you want to be entertained or still need to do some shopping, our weekend guide will point you in the right direction with events from Thursday through Sunday.

1.     Get your groove on.

  • On Friday, head to Harford Community College for a night of jazz and groove. The performance will feature Second Shift led by Benny Russell and the HCC Jazz Ensemble led by Marianne Pastekal; they'll perform a variety of vocal and jazz styles including blues, swing, be-bop, and fusion. Joppa Hall, J108 (Recital Hall No. 1). Students free, children $1, adults $5. 401 Thomas Run Rd.

2.     Enjoy a timeless classic.

  • The Harford Choral Society will perform Georg Friedrich Handel's Messiah on Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. The performance of Handel's classic oratorio will feature a full chorus with orchestra and soloists. Tickets may be purchased online here, at  or at the door. Students $10, seniors $15, adults $20. 1200 Churchville Rd.  

3.     Party in your PJ's.

  • On Sunday morning, Dark Horse Saloon will host its inaugural Pajama Brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests are invited to celebrate a lazy "Sunday Funday" by arriving in their pajamas to receive brunch and drink specials. The event will feature a DJ, pong tables, pitchers of mimosas and Bloody Marys, and contests for best PJ's. 119 S. Main St.

4.     Shop "Second Sundays."

  • Just in case you need more incentive for holiday shopping, head to Main Street on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. to participate in Second Sundays with Music on Main; the Bel Air Community Chorus will perform from 1–3 p.m.

5.     Travel through holiday history.

  • The Historical Society of Harford County will host a Candlelight Christmas Concert and Tea on Sunday at 4 p.m. Music Antiqua will perform with 18th and 19th century instruments and costumes at the , followed by a festive and elegant tea in the British tradition.
