Bel Air Family Builds Snow Fort

Relatives on Barnes Street built a home for their snowman.

Ashley McFadden, 15, and her cousin, Emma Sheppard, 8, said in the past they have built snowmen. But when Bel Air got nearly 10 inches of snow this week, Emma's father, William Sheppard, suggested something different.

The cousins filled square-shaped buckets with snow, and William Sheppard stacked them up into a snow fort in front of their house on Barnes Street. He added a light inside as well.

"That's the snowman's house," Emma Sheppard explained.

Within no time, their neighbors took notice.

"A lot of people have been coming by taking pictures," McFadden said. While Patch interviewed the family on their front porch, several cars slowed to a crawl as drivers looked in wonder.

With the new snow that was expected Saturday, the family planned to touch up spots that had fallen in, like a window, William Sheppard said.

There were also ideas for additions.

“I want to add a roof,” McFadden said.

"And a giant slide!” Emma Sheppard added.
