'House of Cards' Films In Bel Air, Edgewood

The Emmy Award-nominated Netflix series "House of Cards" was filming on location in Bel Air this week.

The Netflix original series, "House of Cards" was filming in Bel Air this week, and town officials hope this is not the last time a film production visits the town.

Last summer the Emmy Award-nominated show filmed in Havre de Grace.

This week it was Bel Air's turn.

On Monday and Tuesday, the show was filming on location at the Liriodendron Mansion and elsewhere in town, Bel Air Director of Economic Development Trish Heidenreich told ExploreHarford.com.

Eileen Frado, senior business development associate with the Harford County Office of Economic Development, told ExploreHarford.com that more filming is expected to take place up the road in Edgewood next week.

"They had expressed to me, and I have certainly seen it myself, where they are filming as much as they can in Harford County close to their set in Joppa," Frado said, according to the ExploreHarford.com piece.

Heidenreich said a film festival put on by the town in recent years served as a catalyst to bring "House of Cards" casting calls to town and later establishing the town as a filming location.

“We’re hoping this is just the beginning of bringing productions to town," Hedenreich said during Monday's Bel Air town business meeting.

She said the visits and exposure mean good things for the town from an economic perspective.

"These people eat in our restaurants and shop [in our shops]," Heidenreich said.
