Tractor Trailer Crash Stopped Traffic on I-95 North in Harford County

Backups extended from Riverside to Bel Air.

A tractor trailer that overturned in the median shut down northbound Interstate 95 near the exit for MD Route 543 for more than an hour Monday morning.

Police told ABC 2 News that one person died as a result of the crash.

Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Fire & EMS Association, said the crash involved a tractor trailer on its side with one person trapped inside. He said crews were dispatched to the scene around 8 a.m.

Gardiner said that one woman was extricated from the tractor trailer and taken by helicopter to a regional trauma center.

Northbound I-95 was completely shut down from approximately 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., according to the Maryland Department of Transportation. Two lanes had reopened on I-95 north as of 10:20 a.m.

Hazardous materials teams, police officers and fire department crews were working to clear the scene, Gardiner said.

Travelers seeking alternate routes should consider MD Route 7 or U.S Route 40, accessible via exits along Interstate 95.
