Not 'For Sale': Bel Air Sonic Still Coming

A sign on the property advertising available space is for a lot located behind Walgreens, the owners say.

A Manekin construction sign advertising available space on the site of the soon-to-open Bel Air Sonic has caused some residents to question whether the business would be built at all. Owner Rick Joshi, however, said construction has simply been delayed.

"We will be there, 100 percent sure on that one," Joshi said.

The owner said he has received a lot of feedback about the sign on the Sonic site, located on Maryland Route 924 next to , but he had no part in placing it there.

Pete Gutwald, director of Harford County Planning and Zoning, also said he knew of no changes for the Sonic lot.

Susan Homberg, a spokeswoman for Manekin, a construction company based in Baltimore and Columbia, said the company has started marketing for a 16-acre mixed use lot located behind Walgreens. She said the plan will not affect Sonic, the drive-in restaurant.

Sonic was , but Joshi said BGE has not placed utility lines and that has delayed construction. The issue should be resolved by January, he said, with construction beginning in February.

"We're pushing for an April start," Joshi said.
