Wegmans grocery stores have a lot of fans in Maryland but do you think they are the “greatest supermarket the world will ever know?”
That’s the claim on a recent post on Buzzfeed that lists 25 reasons why the grocery store is the best. The first rationale: “Shopping at Wegmans is essentially a journey through a small, beautifully maintained, self-sustaining city.” Click here to see all the reasons listed.
Readers on Patch commented about the things they love most about Wegmans: Challah bread, the huge cheese selection and quality of the store and products. Others rave about the bakery, flowers, foreign brand options and bulk food selection.
The company's philosophy, which can be found on their website, keeps things simple: "At Wegmans, we believe that good people, working toward a common goal, can accomplish anything they set out to do."
The Wegmans in Bel Air opened in September 2011. During the months leading up to the opening, there were Patch readers who emailed every week—not an exaggeration—to find out the opening date and availability of jobs. Some even said it would be a "dream" to work at the grocery store (see No. 16 on the Buzzfeed list).
Earlier this month, it was reported that Wegmans is now a "major force" nationally and fan posts like the one on Buzzfeed back up its appeal among consumers. There's even an app for both Apple and Android devices to make shopping and getting discounts easier.
