D-Lite-ful Dessert Coming to Bel Air

Churchville resident Kent Jordan said he will bring a healthy dessert alternative to the heart of Harford County.

Kent Jordan doesn’t think you can get a healthy, good-tasting dessert in Bel Air. Within a couple months, though, he hopes to change that.

The Churchville resident is opening a Tasti D-Lite frozen dessert franchise in the Festival Shopping Center around late September.

“It’s a great alternative to the high-fat, high-calorie yogurts that are out there,” Jordan said. “We’ve got 100 different flavors.”

It will be the second store in Maryland with 70 calories or less in most of its four-ounce servings. Jordan spoke with company representatives at the International Franchise Association Expo in Washington last year, did some research, and decided to open his own store.

Other ice creams are “like eating a heart attack in a bowl,” Jordan added.

Jordan, an Anne Arundel County native, said he will hire 12 to 14 part- and full-time employees. He is looking for employees of any age and experience, he said.

Tasti-D-Lite was founded in 1987 and has more than 50 locations. The other Maryland store is in Severna Park.

“I think people will really be surprised how good it is for the nutrients,” Jordan said. “It’s a great alternative.”

We don't need this kind of stuff. We need places that cater to food sensitivities....gluten free, nut free, soy free.....cater to people who could die because servers and chefs don't give a hoot to make sure the food is safe for certain clientele!
