DuClaw On Tap at the Maryland Brewer's Oktoberfest

Check out what's going on this weekend at the Maryland State Fairgrounds.

Prost! The Maryland Brewer's Association annual Oktoberfest celebration returns to the Maryland State Fairgrounds this weekend.

Twenty-three Maryland breweries will be serving up the best brews the state has to offer—including one with a Bel Air connection.

The beer will flow Oct. 13, from noon to 5:45 p.m. in the grandstand at the Timonium fairgrounds racetrack.

Saturday’s Oktoberfest will be a great opportunity to check out stalwarts like DuClaw, which has a Bel Air location, Olivers Breweries, Flying Dog and The Brewer’s Art but will also offer a chance to sample suds from relative newcomers to the Maryland brewing scene.

Union Craft Brewing, based in the Woodberry neighborhood of Baltimore City, is the newest to arrive on the scene with a series of Baltimore-themed beers like Duckpin Pale Ale, Balt Altbier, Old Pro Gose and Blackwing Lager.

Union’s owner, Jon Zerivitz, is a former graphic designer turned brewer and Baltimore County native.

The festival will also, for many, be the first chance to check out brews from Burley Oak, which is located just outside Ocean City.

Essex native and Burley Oak brewer Bryan Brushmiller recently told Patch’s Nick Gestido that his beers would make their Baltimore-area debut during Baltimore Beer Week—this festival will be a chance to get a sneak peek more than two weeks ahead of schedule.

Ruhlman Brewery, based in Hampstead, is a farm-to-bottle operation: they grow all the hops used in their beers on Creeping Creek Farm.
